Well, as of March 2011 the Walgreens Rewards program is still in place in the Portland OR market. Unfortunately I'll be doing less shopping there now since most of our Register Rewards offers are GONE (there is 1-2 still there per week usually)! Instead of a RR printing we are given points on the WR card. (Instead of advertising RR offers our weekly ad states "earn 15x points" or "earn 5x points" etc.) According to the WR website it takes 1000 points to earn a $5 gift card. Definitely lessens the amount of savings, and not being able to roll the rewards to minimize oop spending really sucks. I think I may follow the lead of another post I read and just shop Walmart and have them price match the Walgreens ad. I really hope they do away with the WR program, but my local store manager said they're likely to switch all Walgreens over to this program :(

I received a gift card for some of my points
and am wondering if there is an expiration
time to spend it at Eddie Bauer. It was for $25.00. Thanks.

You're Welcome! :)

I will have to go tomorrow to roll a bunch of expiring RRs, so I will be curious to see how this all works. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the info Rachel! If the in-ad coupons will be attached to the card, this will cut out a lot of deals that involve handing over the MC then the Wags coupon for free or MM items.

Thanks, Ann!! Another great find!! :)

I am in the test market! I live in the Kansas City area, so I just had to call my 24-hour store. Twice. This is the first I have heard of it, which means they aren't advertising it very well. The people I spoke to said they were told some about it, but would know more once they were able to do the cards for real.

Here are some questions I asked:
Q: Are there quantity limits on deals or sales? (Since the ads say limit one per offer on RRs and have a limit on in-ad coupons.)
A: None that they are aware of right now. The catalinas should still print, and you can do more than one transaction for the in-ad coupons.

Q: Will this card somehow replace the RRs someday?
A: No word on that.

Q: Do the points expire?
A: Yes, but not until three years after they are earned.

Q: Is it limit one card per household or per person?
A: One per person. You get two cards to share, but if under the same roof there are 32 people 13 years old or older, then they can all get one of their own!

Q: Do the points accumulate on the subtotal before coupons are applied?
A: No. They accumulate on the total after all coupons (store and MQs), before tax, and not on cigarettes, liquor, lottery tickets, etc.

More info I was given:
You can sign up online to get the card mailed, but it will take longer to get than just going to the store Sunday. You can use your card at any Wags – even in non-test market stores – to accumulate points.

Starting next month, test market ads will not have the in-ad coupons. You will need to swipe your card to get the discount. You can swipe it at any time during the transaction. (This must be YMMV because online under FAQ it says to scan card first.) They will also have weekly specials to boost your points. For example, buy item XYZ this week and get an extra 100 points.

This *might* get me into their store a little more than I have been lately. Is it possible to be skeptical and optimistic at the same time?

The reward side of it seems...odd.. shopping extensively at wags gets you a movie ticket or spatula? I think they'll definitely tweak this program.

I hope this does not add limits to deals like what they have at CVS. Even though Walgreens has it's quirks I love that I can keep going back and back and back if I want. Heck when they had the Kotex deal going I got a couple of years worth of tampons and never paid anything more than tax and on the first few of those I really did not pay tax because of all the money makers they had the week before. Ugh please please please cross your fingers that there will be no limits.

Hi Sara,

That is the $64,000 question. Will it be severely limited and tied to your card link CVS? Or will it be unlimited like Rite Aid?

WOW they would seriously have to adjust the points down, no way is that going to make people happy, it would probably take all year to get there! that is if they taking the final total after coupons. so glad i'm not a fan of them!
