Nothing is worse than a phone call at 3:40 am.
Apparently my idjit kid does not realize this.
He came home yesterday ostensibly to gather more items to take back to school that he had left behind. Well, I didn’t see a thing go into the car but I did see him shower and shave before he headed out the door at 10:30 pm.
I picked hubby up from the airport at 11:30 pm, and we finally got to sleep about 1 am.
I hear a jingle at about 3:30 this morning, but was too incoherent to figure out what that jingle was. Hubby however, can hear and identify a telephone ring a mile away, anytime day or night.
Turns out it was Sonny-boy.
Those of you who have gotten that call in the middle of the night know what happens… your stomach plunges and you fervently hope and wish it is nothing bad – because you know, everyone calls at three in the morning just to chat. So as I am picking my stomach up off the floor, I hear my son telling me I need to come into the city and bring him his spare car key because somehow his cousin broke the car key he had.
Now, believe it or not my first feeling was not relief. Oh, maybe just a tad, but that quickly passed into, “I am going to squeeze his little face into a point.” (Actually I thought worse but this is a family blog.)
Is he kidding me!?
I am supposed to get dressed, schlep into the city (a 30 minute ride) to give him a key so they can drive to his cousin’s house which is 10 minutes away!?!?!?
I told him to take a cab to his cousin’s house and I’d bring him the key in the morning.
This morning I called him at 8:30 and of course the calls went to voice mail. I called his cousin, and those calls went to voice mail. So, I called my ex-SIL and asked her to wake him up. She then told me that she had gotten dressed and went to get them! I told her had I told them to take a cab, to which she replied “I never thought of that.” Bet you next time she does though.
So after thanking her for getting the two idjits, and after speaking to Sonny-boy we drove in to give him a key. He was fortunate enough that the key was not attached to the fob, so a locksmith was able to fabricate and program the key. Hmmmm too bad we did not realize that sooner than on the drive in when we started making calls, we could have had the locksmith fabricate the key at his car. But, it probably would have cost a whole heck of a lot more than $45. ($45 … for a key!? Whatever happened to $2 car keys?)
After that hubby and I hit Dunkin’ Donuts (I was so aggravated I never got coffee before we left the house), early papers, Tops and Rite Aid where I again tried for vitamins. I managed to get one vitamin D and one Biotin. Here’s the order:
(1) Vitamin D $9.99
(1) Biotin $0
(1) Pond’s facial cloths $3.19
(1) Rite Aid hand sanitizer $2
= $15.18
- $3/$15 RA coupon
= $12.18
- (2) $2/$2+ skin care coupons
- (2) $2/$2+ vitamin coupons
= $4.18
- (2) $1 nature’s bounty coupons
= $2.18
I asked when the next truck comes in, and was told Wednesday so I may call around and see if anyone gets an earlier truck. Otherwise, I’ll skip Rite Aid tomorrow since the vitamins stock was so low and that is all I really wanted next week. I’m only half way to my $25 gift card offer too. The coupons at the end of my CRT were $2/$2.99 fragrance, and $2/$2.99+ cough, cold or allergy.
So now I am soooooo far behind it is not funny. Now that I’ve almost calmed down I am of course glad it was nothing major that he called for. I’m still ticked that they called my ex-SIL after I told them to take a cab, and I wonder where his common sense went? Why in the world would he scare me half to death and expect me to drive into the city when they were so close to a place to crash for the remainder of the night?
And people wonder why I have been trying to sell him on e-bay for years.
