As much as I wanted to shop at Walgreens this morning, I had other obligations that prevented that. *sigh* Maybe later in the week after the trucks arrive.
This is my produce stand shopping for the week. Hubby wanted to go south instead of north … so we did! We can across this apple u-pick place in North Collins that is the place to be on a Saturday in southern Erie county! WOW!
This is what we purchased in our travels:
1 peck Cortland Apples $5
1 peck Elstar Apples $5
1 Zucchini $1
2 Cauliflower $1.50 each
2 Cucumbers 2/25¢
1 Cabbage $1.50
1 Butternut Squash $2
1 qt Organic Pears $3
2 Jalapeno Peppers 2/25¢
5 Mild Red Peppers 5/$1
= $22
One thing we noticed was how much more expensive produce was down south versus up north – only the peppers and cucumbers were tremendous farm stand deals. That could be because we did not know the spots that we “must” shop!?
Anyhooooo the Elstar will either be sauce or pie filling. Look for upcoming posts.
So, how did your Sunday Morning Shopping go? Were you out bright and early? Sleep in? Find a deal we should all run out for?
Details folks, we want details!

I wondered into Rite Aid yesterday and did the Kimberly Clark deal and the Crest Complete toothpaste which set the stage for a decent Sunday:
1 Soft Soap $2.99
1 Oral B brush $2.69
1 Paper $1.20 (20 %)
1 Gum Perio Bal $19.99 (20%)
used $5 Perio Balance printable, $1 softsoap Mfg Q, and the $20 +UP
= $0.87oop
then received:
$2+UP, $5+UP $2.69 +UP, and $20 +UP.
Not bad for my first Sunday back since Spring.
So needed the MM’s since I spent more OOP on the Kimberly Clark than I would have wanted, but I’m back in the game.
I was rather surprised to see about 5 other couponers in this early. Since Spring my little Rite Aid has become quite the hot spot (darn!) but everyone was just milling around getting along so it seemed pretty decent. But competition is there. BTW, I started a chat with two of the other ladies and I referred your website.
I wanted to do the Coke deal but the expiration dates on the Diet Coke were awful. Most of the Diet Coke had October expire dates.
Ann, why would anyone from New York buy apples in North Carolina? I didn’t know that apples even grew in North Carolina and New York is noted for them. I bet they were more expensive down there because they are probably harder to grow in that climate.
My shopping today was pretty much as planned. I hit 2 Rite Aids and got the PerioBalance, Similasan and Crest. I managed to get the only PerioBalance in both stores (I cleared the shelves). With my 20% discount, it rang up as $19.99; on my friend’s card (10% discount), it was $22.49. Every item I bought today was a money maker. I got rid of most of last week’s +UPs and I ended up with $11.38 more in +UPs than I started with.
CVS didn’t go as well. They had gotten rid of most of the cashiers and this morning there was only one person working and they were assisting at self-checkout. As a result, I didn’t even manage to get a raincheck for the Excedrin or the Thermacare. I’ll go back tomorrow and try to get the rainchecks.
North Collins, Gita. It is a town in southern Erie country.
Ann
Apples are grown in the North Carolina mountains and are a very hardy agriculture item there.
Oops. I really misread your post. I guess I focused on the “North” and “down south” and missed some of the other words.
That was funny.
Ann, how do you expect to save money doing deals when you are driving to North Carolina every Sunday morning!
I read things wrong all the time Gita…. I’m pretend my eyes aren’t getting old, and I DONT need glasses though!
LOL!!!!
Hey,
I had a pretty rough morning. Not because of the cashier’s, just because of cpns. Just couldn’t quite figure out what was needed. The olay deal didn’t work, after AM & 2 cashiers and I mulled over the verbage (was there almost an hour), we all decided I would have to purchase 3 Olay. So I returned everything but the crackers, I got more back than I paid. I kept telling them the total wasn’t right, but they said they would get reimbursed for the cpns anyway… Yeah, I’m still confused. Anyway!

All in all, not my “best deals”. But I purchased what we needed!!
Forgot to say, purchased 12 more balance bars @ self checkout doing 3 transactions. Asked FEM if it was okay, she said fine because of the $0 balance.
Didi ~ so glad you are back in the game!!
I got the $3 ECB at CVS too. It’s from the John Frieda hair color (shows as Curel on the reciept – JF is part of the same company). There was a spend $10 get $3 ECB back in June – seems to still be active.
Ah!! Thank you Alecia!!
Didi,
Where did you find the meat off coupons? Were they in the Tops ad? What Sunday paper did you get them out of? Thanks
Thank you Patti!!!
Wendy, I received the super cpn in my Red Plum where my Tops and Rite Aid come early on Friday.
It was a cpn for $3/15 or $4/20 or $6/25 for meat.
My cube steaks were $10.00 literally, and the two pork chops together were $6.00. So for $13 I got 2 cube steak dinner and 2 pork chop dinners…
I hope that helps!
Oh crud! I would have loved to have that cpn. Thanks for the info. Hope you are feeling better. By the way, how did you make out in Cdga at your cooking event? I don’t recall seing the post.
Wendy I posted, but no probs honey… I placed third!!! I was extremely happy, specially as I got released from ICU 1-1/2 day’s before, lol
Come to find out, ARE YOU READY??? We all thought this one guy actually worked there, cuz there was only 4 of us from the start. There was supposed to be 5. The fifth showed up 1 hour late. He brought all the food premade with him. The only thing he made on the premises was the pasta.
HE WON FIRST PLACE!!!
I didn’t know, the 2nd place winner told me. Anyway… come to find out, cuz she was livid (I’m not happy either to be honest), he is the excecutive sous chef for the Oakfield Country Club!!!! Do you belive this crap?? So how do we know, since he was an hour late, he didn’t stop by the country club and pick up the dish and just make the pasta on site??? How do we know he made ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE PASTA???
She said she emailed Fox8 news, the hosts, as well did her relatives that were there and witnessed him cheating, (cheating by not making the dish in front of everyone w/ the time frame that we all had from working with raw ingredients) … no response. Horrible I say… horrible.
Oh well. Next time?? If the competitor is not there on time??? I will create a big to do, cuz you know what??? All is fair in love and competitions, yes???
Man am I long winded!!!
How about the $2.00 off pork esaver coupon… I did not even know I could use it today with my pork loin and my cashier told me to!!
Didi – good for you girl… sorry to hear about the NONSENSE that is CRUD!!!!!
Didi that is so wrong! I can’t belive the official not only allowed him to be in this event after being late and not cooking his entire dish. Let alone taking first. Sounds like it was a set up!
I only went to RA. I got the Periobalance (but the expiration was 12/11!!!), the Similasian (can’t wait to try this one – allegries stink), Combat Roach bait (no sale but my apt building has not been controlling the pest issue and it’s coming up drains and the walls!), Softsoap bw (2)–> The tax on the periobalance is $2 but otherwise, decent run to get rid of the KC +UPs from last week.
Might want to buy a bottle of boric acid at a hardware store. I try to be around when the monthly spray is performed. The spray guy told me if eggs are laid, even commerical chemicals won’t do anything until the little ones are running around. Supposedly, boric acid will block a cockroach from breathing through it shell.
Best way to avoid roaches is to keep cardboard, especially boxes from stores, out of the building.
Thanks! I must do all of this.
When I saw your post, I went and checked the two PerioBalances that I got this morning. Both has expiration dates of 10/11!!! I got them in different stores so it is surprising that they both had the same super-short expiration date. I guess that was why they were the only ones on the shelf.
The newer boxes I’ve seen in other stores (not RA) had expirations in 2013 so that just goes to show how long it’s been there on the shelf. Yikes. My store had at least 10 of them… all had the same expiration date.
I have a suggestion for the apples.
Couple of months ago, I had a bag sack of apples and made apple/sausage meatballs. These came out amazing as the taste combo of the mild italian sausage + apples is divine.
Sorry I don’t have a ‘recipe’ for you but use your fav meatball recipe and adapt accordingly. I found that the meat, egg and oats blend could hold quite a bit of grated, peeled, raw apple.
(My local grocer had some packets of McCormick honey mustard glaze for chicken on clearance for .15 each and this went really well w/ the meatballs. Oh and I added about 1 1/2 tsp small whole yellow mustard seeds to the glaze for a nice crunch/texture.)
Barbee, if hubby reads this, I have a feeling we’ll be making apple-sausage meatballs.
Ann
Sure hope that recipe is posted then – sounds AWESOME!!!!
I made a whole bunch and froze them raw for over cooking later w/ no ill effects.
LOL- OVER COOKING!
I meant oven cooking.
I only went to Rite Aid this morning did really well:

Did you see my Ma and Pa???
Cottin pick! Was that Balance Bar q (55cents/1 9/11 SS) regional? I’ve looked in my “good” papers (that get “everything”) and my skinny papers and nothing…. Err…..
Just had one of those AMAZING and FUN shopping days, so had to share… I hit RA at lunch: Got a Crest toothpaste and Oral B toothbrush – made $2 a piece on them… Got 2 Softsoap and 2 Irish spring body washes for FREE and the Similasan eye drops for FREE!!
That is $24.33 worth of GREAT products that Rite-aid paid me $4 to take out of their store!!
Got a rain check for the dental deal and since I have 20% off it will be a nice moneymaker with the coupon.
Ran to CVS on the way home: and scored another $41.07 in GREAT products for $4 (stupid candy and gum – LOL)!!

Maybe I am Didi’s long lost sister….hahaha – LOL!!
Scraped the last of my moisturizer out today. (Actually had cut the tube in half and was getting the last out with a Q-tip…..lol). So I hit Rite Aid for the Olay deal. I talked it over with the assistant mgr and he said he was positive that the SCR would work with just purchasing 2 Olay items. And if it didn’t, he would take it back even if opened. Yea, right, like I would really do that. But here’s what I did.
1 – Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution $22
1-Olay Microsculpting Cream $22
1- Secret deodorant $5.49
1-Secret deodorant $1.39 (BOGO 1/2 off)
Total $50.88
Used $10/2 Olay from 9/18 SS or RP? (how quickly I forget).
And 2- Buy Olay, get Secret Free (Took off $4.99 & $1.39) Latest P&G insert.
Used ups totaling $33.00. ($20, $6, $5 & $2).
OOP $1.50
Will get $10 SCR (HOPE!) and $10 P&G Olay rebate.
I didn’t get the Buy one Olay get a bw free coupon locally so that’s why I used the deodorant coupon. Also, we pay sales tax on EVERYTHING here in Idaho (except Rx), so that’s why I didn’t get 2 of the more expensive deodorants. I hate paying the additional tax on something “free”. Ha!
Nice Patti! I have $30 +UPS so I’m wanting to do this deal and hopefully the coke deal this week. If you hear back from the SCR department by week end let us know if your purchase qualifies.
Cathy ~ SCR in my account as of this morning! So buying only 2 of the Olay items triggers the SCR.
Thank you!! Today is truck day at my Rite Aid so I see Olay in the cards for me.
