Sunday Morning Shopping

by Ann on January 31, 2010

O-M-G did Walgreens work out beautifully this morning!

Store #1:

Hubby and I walked in, headed straight to the back and saw the shelf was completely full of meters. They had them on two endcaps too! So, each of us took one, and a joint juice and went to cash out. We were standing at the register and there was no one there (it was 8:30), so the 18 year old in photolab called us over to cash out. He was really nice! I was glad he called us over because when we walked out I saw it was the nasty beauty counter lady working the main register. I doubt she’d have been as pleasant. We each did two orders of the following:

(1) meter $14.99
- coupon
= $0.00 + got $10 RR (no tax in NYS)

(1) joint juice $10
- $10 meter RR
= $0.00 + got $10 RR (no tax in NYS)

Since he was so accommodating, I ran back and got a third meter. I was really glad I did too, because of the lack in Store #2. We left the store with $30 in Register Rewards.

Store #2, there was only one meter on the shelf. There was a lady checking out with two in her cart. *darn it!* After wandering the store looking for the Vitamin Schitck Lip Care (it was in a bowl at the checkout), we got in line with a lot of orders. This is the “rich people’s Walgreens” and they are sooooo customer service oriented!

(1) meter
- free coupon
= $0.00 + received $10 RR

(1) joint juice (did this twice)
- $10 meter RR
= $0.00 + received $10 RR

(2) advil
(1) Lypsyl
(1) Vitamin Schitck Lip Care
(1) cookie (hubby’s contribution)
(1) newspaper
= $1.96 after all coupons and including tax (on the lip balms) + received $5 RR + $2 RR + $3 RR

I did a second order as above minus the cookies so it was 96¢ including tax (on the lip balms) + received $5 RR + $2 RR + $3 RR

Then I turned around and got two newspapers, used (2) $2 RR and paid nothing.

On the way up north, we stopped back at Store #1, hubby ran in, picked up another meter and walked out with a $10 RR

At Store #3, we did the joint juice and meter deals again netting us $20 in RR

Total in my purse right now is $66 in Register Rewards! I spent $2.92 (including tax) OOP, and got:

(7) meters
(7) joint juice
(4) advil
(2) Lypsyl
(2) Vitamin Schitck Lip Care
(1) cookie *insert eye roll*
(4) newspapers!

One newspaper costs $2 alone! And, I still have one more meter coupon. Thank goodness the newspapers on the 7th will be excellent… although I can’t possibly use $66 worth of Register Rewards on just newspapers. I’m going to have to add the monthly deals later today and figure out WTh I can get!

We stopped at two Rite Aid looking for vitamins. The first store had nuthin’, and I mean nuthin’. It was a GNC store and I noticed the GNC Rite Aids have less Nature’s Bounty to choose from. At the second store, I was able to pick up some Biotin, no Vitamin D. The Biotin was 42 more than it was at the store nearest me! but beggars can’t be choosers I guess.

(2) Nature’s Bounty $11.99/2
(1) Blink $7.99
= $19.98 (no tax)
- $3/$15 Rite Aid coupon
- (2) Rite Aid $2/$2 vitamin coupons
- $4 in manufacturer coupons
= $8.98 + I’ll receive $7.99 SCR and I am s-l-o-w-l-y building the credit for the $25 gift card (offer #552 online, #550 in-store booklet)

Our final stop was Big Lots where hubby was able to use the 20% off coupon one final time before it expired (he used it in Salt Lake last week).

That was it. Extremely good run today! Now the “fun” begins trying to sspend all those Register Rewards before they expired.

So how did you do today? Were you snowed/iced in? Or were you able to get out, get papers and hit a Walgreens?

Want to go out and get the deals but we are snowed (and iced) in. We received 6-10 inches in our area and we don’t usually have snow. Kids love it but I am inside keeping warm.

If we got 10″ of snow here I would not go out either Andrea! That’s a lot of snow!

Sounds like an pretty awesome shopping day for you!!! i didn’t even step out of the house today. It is way to cold to take the babies out and as I mentioned before I can’t drive so I sent hubby out ;o) He went to about 6 Wags in the area and he left the house at 7:30 am. I only had 1 bayer coupon left so he got a bayer meter and an Aviva meter at wags #1 and we got back $15! I didn’t care to confuse him with any deals other than the meters. I will have to do those myself in a couple days. Then he only found 2 more Aviva at 2 seperate stores and got the $10 for those. He said only 3 out of 6 even had the Aviva and only 1 on the shelf. WTH!! I have 25 more Aviva coupons :o ( Oh well $25 richer in Wags RR and I didn’t even have to leave….guess I can’t complain. Plus I know a few people who can actually use the meters.

Ann, even I made it to WGS today. And I usually refuse going there. I wanted to check the movie tickets deal, as I really want to go see Up in the Air movie sometime soon. :)
There was one meter on the shelve so I took it. It turned out I did have one Bayer meter coupon afterall. So $0.00 OOP and get 10 RR. They did not have any joint juice, and the movie deal would have required me to spend $5 oop, so I just left wondering if I can just get the movie rented for free at the red box. :)
Rite Aid was great. They had everything I wanted including milk. I made a few dollars there.
Then later on the way to the mall I stopped by a brand new WGS and they had meter shelve fully stocked, only I did not have any coupons for those. I did get joint juice for 50 cents tax (turned out its’ a taxable item around here) and left.

Ann – I’m in the short ad area for Walgreens – sigh. So I don’t think I can do the meter deal. I was there this morning briefly but I didn’t plan on going so I wasn’t prepared and I had the baby with me (DH is on business again). I got a newspaper, blink & water… $8.69 got the $8 back. BTW – a ton of catalinas print before the $8 one, it was really slow. And the cashier didn’t even give me all of mine. But then at the end he sarcastically said, “you must be waiting for this one”. He was already checking out someone else. I said, “of course.” Duh – did was he not going to give it me to if I didn’t wait around? Really – lol! Then I went to RA, got – (2) NB Fish/Flax $13.99/2 & (2) newspapers with only the RP $1.25 each & $7.99 Complete – after all the cpns, it was $6.48. But this young teenage guy, didn’t want to let me use a 2nd cpn on the B1G1 NB. He said, one per purchase, cause it’s a sale yada yada – you know the story. First time I’ve seen this kid. He said, he’ll let me use it this one time. Oh boy – more troubles for me. And this is a different store from the other 2 with problems. I haven’t even called yet. My mom & dad have been having issues in their area too. I’m always so hopeful for nice ones, but they are so rare here.

Then I went to S&S to get groceries- spent $40 (mostly Enfagraow formula), organic stuff (horizon milk & yobaby yogurt) – those 3 items ended up being almost $30 alone. Cashier was nice, but I wasn’t getting any hot deals or anything.

Great job on WG… I wish I could check out after you :) Do you know the regular price on the meters? is it $79.99 or something? I only have 2 meter q’s anyways.

Hi Liz,

Oh I don’t know, I always loved the super friendly and helpful metro-NYC cashiers and sales clerks. *end sarcasm* The totally silent transactions where the cashier does not even tell you the total (although you might prefer that as long as they take off your coupons), the nasty, snappy, snarky comments all through the transactions… there is something for everyone in a metro-NYC check-out encounter!

The meters were marked $14.99 shelf tag this week. The regular price is $79+. Definitely not worth doing at that price.

I’ve heard the short ads were to end, but no one was saying if that included metro-NYC.

Hi Shirley,

At this point in time, ebay is your only real option. I doubt you will get them before the sale ends though.

I did the vitamin thing last week and ended up spending $4.53 (that was total with tax). I was able to print alot of coupons from signing up for the Nature Bounty’s club thing. I just kept clicking back and I think I ended up printing 8 coupons. They also had $1 off coupons on some of the vitamin bottles. In addition to that I use the $2 off vitamin wellness coupon. So bottom line I made $21.47 (I bought $50 worth of vitamins). I also did one for my brother’s account–think I spent less on his order so it was definitely a money maker for me. (My husband takes tons of vitamins so we will use most of them.)

we went to walmart first as usual, and there we got a bunch of stuff (some was i want it and i have coupon for it :D ) haha, so we would have spent 91 dollars there, but with all the coupons, it brought it down to 68 dollars, not to mention i’m turning that in for the $10 rebate. but even without the rebate it was awesome, we got a total of 44 items that made each item around $1.55 and i had no problems with the printed coupons scanning wheww and on top of that it didn’t beep for a CSM, so no need to approve my 20+ coupons so far so good.
then off to target, i was kinda disappointed with their ad this week, it wasn’t my week i guess. but while we were there i got 2 axes; up and up fabric softener; 2 wonka gummies which in the end i only paid 13 dollars for and got my 5 GC , and later on i went back for the sobe water and got 4 of them for $1 (sweet).
so here we go to walgreens, i changed my orginial plan, and instead i bought the blink tears, and got the olay with free makeup, 2 ben and jerry’s, chapstick and paid around 5 dollars that and got back 2RR. there’s this one lady that works there every sunday i go in there, this was the first time she said more than hello and she’s always been nice to us.
then we were off to see the wizard… oh wait no wrong one, we went to rite aid, and that didn’t turn out too bad either.
we were going to start this sunday going to cvs, but the gps couldn’t find the one close to us, i dont know why, it just didn’t want to work with this time. so since my hubs doesn’t have to go to work tomorrow we are going to head to cvs. and i was irritated that the kmart we have practically right next to us, didn’t have the reece’s pieces deal, so i couldn’t do that and that’s really annoying, but since everything else worked out okay with no gliches, and no ‘you can’t use this coupon’ it was a good day. hopefully target will have a special since they have a coupon for it on their website.
also starting this day forward, i am documenting every bag of candy and ice cream that my husband consumes like they’re gonna run out or something. he has already eaten i think between 2-4 bags of candy in the last month and half!!!!! and thats just the hershey’s kisses, not the wonkas that i got him, or all the ice cream that he has bought. and i’m going to include weight as well. and at the end of the year, i’m gonna let him know how much he has consumed at the end of the year.

Thanks Ann for the info. I guess it’s probably best to use my meter q’s at RA for MIL. CVS sometimes has $5 but the RA deal seems to net more. I haven’t heard anything about doing away with the short ads. I used the have a long ad, but that was back in 2002.
