********
We headed out a bit later than planned, about 8:30 and our first stop was Walgreens. The store closest to me always has a few meters out (as opposed to all behind the pharmacy) but since it was so late I was not hopeful. Went back to the shelf and there were several left!

YAY!

So, as I was walking around the store I encountered another lady with two in her hands. We looked at each other and laughed because it was clear that with two Bayer meters in hand early Sunday morning, we were couponers. We chatted while hubby picked through 75% off Halloween candy. I ended up needing a price check, and noticed her total bill was 65¢ although I didn’t snoop enough to see what she was rolling.

Soooooo Christina whadja get?

Anyhoooo she completely put me to shame. After hubby’s candy excursion I shelled out $2.50 (used $13 in RR).

At the second Walgreen’s, hubby and I each got a a meter and I shelled out $1.10 on candy (and used a $5 RR).

At the third Walgreen’s, hubby and I each got two meters and I shelled out $2.20 on candy (and used a $5RR).

So tallying up Walgreen’s today:

(9) Bayer Meters
(5) Newspapers ($2 each)
$30 in 75% off Halloween candy ($120 retail)
(9) $5 RR
And I used up $33 in RR from the Almay and Lubriderm deals last week for an OOP expense of $5.70 (includes the tax on the candy, no tax on meters in NYS).

I still have four more Bayer meter coupons left, but I am not hopeful. Still I did a LOT better than expected.

Off to Tops where we spent a boat-load of cash. Our order was $50 and we got 36 cans of Goya beans, 4 Breyers Ice Cream, marked down ground turkey, 2 contac, 2 ecotrin, 5 vanity fair plates, and a bunch of other stuff including…24 King Size Reese’s Double Peanut Butter Pumpkins.

Yup, more candy. They were 14¢ each, so he grabbed a case. Regular retail was $1.19 each; $28.56 total.

So for those keeping tally, we are up to $33 and change for nearly $150 in chocolate candies.

*sigh*

The $5/$50 and the $5/$20 coupons came off with no trouble at all. The $7/2 coupons required the manager over ride key (of course as they were over $5), but I had no trouble at all combining the two offers.

Our last store was Target. As I feared, the Glade was wiped. They definitely did not stock a thing there from yesterday morning. We did pick up some cheap cookies. I was not about to waste a good single denomination at a non-doubling store, so I used (2) 75¢ Target coupons + $1/2 Pepperidge Farms manufacturer coupon. Hubby and I each did an order since my Target can get a little persnickety about using more than two alike Target coupons. The cashier we went to probably would not have cared, but you never know. We also picked up dollar spot Rayovac batteries which were free after the $1 coupon in today’s inserts.

I held fast and did not go to Rite Aid although I do admit to looking longingly at each one we passed.

So, how did you do? Obviously we got a LOT of candy, made some cash at Walgreen’s, and my highlight; meeting Christina this morning!

I got 6 meters going to multiple stores. There are more out there. I was wondering where all the couponers were.I have 6 more coupons. I thought I should save them for a future deal. What do you think?

Checked last night at my local store in the small floor container that held the 75% off Halloween candy. A bag of USO candy that looks like Valetine time hearts rang up at $1.39 Even the cashier agreed it was still a rip-off. Anyway, most stores have really been picked over.

Now supposedly at one store elsewhere, someone wasn’t allow to stack a Lubriderm MQ with a Wags coupon that came from one of those booklet, I’m guessing. While I never got around to doing that deal last week, wasn’t it working.

Last time Bayer meters were on sale, a couple of stores has a free A1C meter (in a seperate box) attached to the Contour one. That freebie is a $30 value.

Hi Wendy,

I was wondering the same. The only person I saw out getting meters was Christina. She told me the two stores that she had stopped prior to the store I met her were loaded. (A third store had nothing out, but they were in the pharmacy that did not open until 10).

I was thinking about holding back on the four coupons I have left too. At this point I have $65 to roll and the papers next week might be lousy, and then what?

Hi Kas,

The lubriderm was indeed working and is a month long deal. If you could not use the IVC with a manufacturer coupon, I’d call corporate. While Walgreen’s does not have a coupon policy per se, that one is universal to all their stores.

Well, we could get a year’s supply of toilet paper!

Just before Thanksgiving do a lot of coupons come out in that paper?

Hi Wendy,

No. Next week’s inserts should be as decent as this week’s, the week after that (the week prior to Thanksgiving) is traditionally skimpy.

Finishing out the year, P&G is making us buy papers Thanksgiving weekend when there usually are none. The first week if December is traditionally a decent week, whereas the second week of December seldom is wonderful.

We shall see if this year stays true to the past or does better by us!

I hit Rite Aid, and spent $7-something on 4 Herbal Essences (used 2 b1g1 coupons and it worked just fine this time! All 4 for free), 2 packages of duracell (so I’m 1 package away from the $5 rebate), and 2 packages of GE Reveal bulbs. $2 in rebates ($7 if you count my hopeful duracell rebate… because I’m hoping to get my last package for free with some more herbal essences later in the week). Not too bad for a slow week. :) Although I’m wishing I had a Walgreens closer than an hour away!

Just wondering, what does everyone do with all those meters?

I went to CVS today to get some Scholl’s inserts and found Roc cleansers on clearance by 50%. The Age Diminishing Facial Cleanser is marked down to $4. Luckily I had a $3 coupon from the Roc site. It was a good filler item.

Ann, I remember your posting something about where to find Olay products, particularly the Olay Pro-X at a good price. I didn’t check the Pro-X price at CVS but nearly all the Olay products are on marked down. The Olay Definity Line is on clearance at 50% if people want to try this line. I’ve been using the definity eye cream since it was introduced, and I rarely see Olay on clearance so now would be a good time to try if people are interested.

What to do with the meters? Donate them. Hospice centers, old folks homes, crisis centers, veteran help centers, or anywhere else they will GIVE them to the people that need them. I refuse to donate them to places that in turn sell them (like Salvation Army thrift stores, etc).

Tegan I think people want the Pro-X to combine with the $20 rebate and a $10 home mailer coupon.

Hi Pam,

To Rachel’s great suggestions allow me to add any shelters, be they for men, women or teens (which, now that I am re-reading Rachel covered under crisis). *sigh* Anyhoooo mine go to a local battered women’s shelter.

I donated some last week to a crisis pregnancy resource center. I was thinking some of the ladies may need them only during pregnancy (checking for gestational diabetes). ??? If anyone else can think of more places, I would love to hear! Many of the old folks homes around here will not accept them. I can’t see why not!

I was so excited to see my name in a blog that I called my husband in from the other room, he was not that impressed. lol.

Anyways, I also saw a lot of meters out there (only one store was low)…hmmm…maybe they learned from last time and are stocking more this week.

My rolls at Wags aren’t very exciting this week. I am doing the Tylenol, psudafed deal (using a $2/1 tylenol IP and a MQ, pay a little under $10 get a $10RR) and I am getting rolaids for .49 each (get two at 4.99 each and use the $4/2 coupon and get a $5 RR) and I am buying glade spray and thats about it.

I am concerned because I have about $200 in RR’s now and that gets to be a lot to roll. I am going to try to sit down tomorrow and get some easy rolls down on paper. I will let you know what I come up with.

:) Happy Couponing!

Christina-
Hi! I felt the same when I saw my name in this blog! I had commented on blogs, even left new coupon links, with no acknowledgement. Ann is the best! She always gives credit and thanks to anyone that contributes in any way. I am a little jealous you got to meet her IRL! And $200 RRs?!! WOW! I would also like to hear that story!

Hello all! I have been Wags couponing for over a year and I would DEFINITELY hold onto meter q’s. I used a bunch during the last go around – earning $5rr wyb 1 for $14.99 and was soooo sad when this deal appeared:
Meter on sale $9.99 earn $10rr wyb one!!
So to recap, buy one for free with the q and earn a $10rr!
(I had wasted 20+q’s on the less lucrative deal)

Here in TN where my sales tax is almost 10% it was awesome to pay less tax and get twice as much back. I bought 40 of them (split the rr’s with a friend who gave me all her q’s). Then I donated them to my midwifery group that has a low-income clinic. A lot of the women there end up having gestational diabetes and need the meters/strips but cannot afford them. They were THRILLED!

Hi Brandy,

I loved that $10 RR deal too… oh the memories. Never regret doing a lesser deal first as we can never know what deals the stores will have for us a month or two down the road. What if they did not have anything? Then you’d have been kicking yourself for not getting the free $5 RR (or free after 10% tax *ouch!*).

When the $10 RR meter deal was on, it was HARD to find a meter anywhere. This time, they were plentiful. Maybe folks in my area are also hoping for the return of the $10 RR?
