Sunday Morning Shopping

shopping haul

Our first stop was CVS where it was well worth scanning my card at the coupon kiosk because it shot out a free Illy coupon!!

I asked the manager for the Black Friday ad and was told it would be in next week. She told me that as in the past the ad the week of November 20 – 26 will be a Sunday – Wednesday ad, then Thursday – Saturday for the Black Friday sales.

Here is my whopping CVS order:

(1) Irish Spring Deodorant $2.09 (on markdown)
(1) Illy Coffee $2
= $4.09
- $2.49 illy cvs coupon (that is what it scanned off)
- $1.50 irish spring cvs coupon
= 10¢

I had planned on going to Walgreens for some Ricola that I would roll for newspapers when out of nowhere hubby walked up to me yesterday and said:

“You have to do something with all the cough drops we have – they are taking over the house.”

Hmmmm I did not realize we had that many cough drops, but that ended any idea of going to Walgreens today.

So, we did a quick trip to Tops where I took all the Jiffy Mix they had – all eight of them! On a ten for sale!! I sure hope they get a truck in or just forgot to unload the stock from the backroom. Unless I missed the display? If not, that is bad as that is a really good sale.

(8) Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix 50¢
(1) Diamond Walnuts $3.99
= $7.99
- Free walnuts WYB 8 jiffy corn muffin mix
= $4

After that, for more coffee research, we went to breakfast!

And our final stop was Rite Aid. I had over $29 in +ups to use by the end of this week, and none of the P&G coupons to make the $15/$50 deal work in a way that would provide useful products for my family, so I did this instead:

(4) Newspapers $1.60 (after 20% discount)
(2) Lightdays Liners $3.19 9after 20% discount)
(1) Bufferin $6.99
(1) Legatrin $6.99
= $26.76
- $3 bufferin coupon
= $23.76
- $1.50/2 kotex coupon
= $22.26
- $22 +ups from a prior week
= 26¢
= $12 SCR
= $11.74 profit!

Total merchandise: $38.84

Total PROFIT: $7.64!

So, how did your Sunday Morning Shopping go? Were you out bright and early? Sleep in? Find a deal we should all run out for?

Details folks, we want details!

I haven’t made it out yet but I did get my path shoveled. I did the sidewalk last night while it was still coming down but had switched to rain. It was very heavy last night but frozen this morning. I’m not sure which is worse. We only got a couple of inches in the city but some surrounding areas were hit very hard. The trees still had almost all their leaves and the snow was very wet and heavy so there are lots of power outages.

I’m getting ready to head out. I’m sure that not all the sidewalks have been cleaned so going with my cart will a blast. Fortunately, I have boots with excellent traction.

Glad you have power Gita. When we had a freak October storm 4-5 years ago the leaves were at peak and the snow was very heavy (it was 38º, so it does not need to be freezing to snow), and it combined to pull the electrical wires down – we were without power for nearly a week (the streets next to us were back up in less than two days – I am still jealous), so I have a lot of empathy for all those who got snow the last two days.

Where I live the wires are overhead and there are trees on the street but we’ve been pretty lucky so far. Some of the suburban areas were very hard hit and they are bringing in crews from other areas to help restore power to all the people who’ve lost it. This storm was really amazing. Some of my roses where still blooming on Friday. There is going to be a lot of work cleaning up the garden. Usually you can do it in stages but this time everything died all at once.

Ahem! What a memory that will be for all the families in our area…and for all the families in Gita’s area!
Best of luck to all of those who got an October surprise!

Like you, I didn’t have the coupons needed to do the P&G deal. I used the CG coupons at an earlier date. I have a cash register receipt and UPC’s for $25.89 so I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it to me to spend $24.11 more and do the rebate.

Rite Aid
(9) Tic tac, (3) UP2U, (1) Bufferin = $18.99 -$3 Bufferin, $7.20 Tic Tac/Gum = $8.79 – $8 +UP = $0.79 Get $6 SCR

(6) Revlon Beauty Tools ($1.16-$1.99) my 20% discount reduced the advertised price. I had ZERO coupons for these. The AJC hasn’t had Revlon beauty tool coupons in months. Total: $10.69 Got back $4 +UP and $3 SCR. This could be a nice money maker if anyone has 6 Revlon beauty tool coupons.

CVS
(1) Reach TB 2-pack $3.99-$2.00 MC = $1.99 – $2 ECB Received $2 ECB
(1) Schick Quatro $8.99-$5.00=$3.99-$2 ECB = $1.99 Received $4 ECB
(2) Azo Test Strips B1G1 @ $11.99 = $11.99 – (2) $1 MC in the box = $9.99 – $4.00 ECB = $5.99
**I’ve needed these test strips for a while and was glad to finally find a decent deal on them** There are MC’s inside all the AZO products on display.

My deal of the day was at Wegman’s.
Dole has 2 single serve frozen fruit cups. At Wegmans they are $1.49 until 11/19. There are 75 cent coupons around/ doubled = free.

Nice find Wendy D :) Thanks!

I went to RA bought 4 papers, I will go back tomorrow. To much going on today……

Anyone have a good scenario for the P&G ? that doesn’t involve CG, those coupons are long gone.

Good shopping everyone! Gita I hope the path’s were clear for you!!

May I just preface this and say that our inserts ‘SUCK’!!! I mean big time. Crazy!! RP had only the advil, purina and the pledge thingie… ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Ugh!! Of course we had less than 1/2 in the SS as well. No Trident, nada!! :-(

Anyway, drama queen and I were out the door at 7:40. First stop, DD’s! Hot chocolate for her, and my free birthday coffee for me!!

RA: #1 – 12 CG products, 2 Old Spice BW. Used: (6) $8/2 CG, $1/1 OS product, B1G1 OS BW + $4UP = $4.48 (btw, tax was over $4 :-( ), received; $15UP – will also submit for the P&G rebate
#2 – 8 Trident layer gum, 1 UP something gum, 1 M&M’s coconut (filler), Febreeze candle, Febreeze set & refresh. Used: (4) B1G1 Trident, $1/1 UP2 (something), $2/1 Febreeze candle, B1G1 Febreeze set & refresh + $6UP = .49 cents

WAGS (I know :-) )
2 Mars fun bars, 3 combos, 2 Blue diamond almonds, 2 Domino conf., 2 marked down dried cranberries (.67/1), 2 Bayer 81mg asprin. Used: (2) $1.50 Mars, .50/2 Domino Conf + WAGS cpn, $1/2 Blue Diamond, $100/2 Combos (tear off), RC for Bayer & $1/1 = $8.85. No RR’s. No matter…
They didn’t have the fun size, they gave me the bigger size for $2.99 each, then I couldn’t use the instore coupon because I didn’t buy the “mini’s”… ugh, BY THE TIME I LEFT I HAD A HEADACHE!! Customer behind me was also a cpner’, and her next stop was also Tops, lol. I rolled my eyes and told her WAGS drives me crazy. She said “yep, that’s WAGS”!!

Tops: 3 transactions – #1 & #2 transactions were identical. Something happened in #2, watch below.
#1 – 4 Carnation evaporated milk (thank God for 9/25 RP, stupid inserts… don’t get me started), 1 Domino sugar, 1 nuts, 3 Jiffy Corn Mix. Used: (2) .50/2 Carnation, .50/1 Domino. Total OOP: $5.99
#2 – Exact duplicate of #1 – Total OOP: -.21, the FEM actually came and key’d it and they gave ME .21. I’m like “HUH”??? I mentioned it to the FEM and she said, no, that’s what the register said.
#3 – 8 Jiffy, 1 boneless skinless chicken breasts, 4 Brillo pads, 1 nuts, 1 pkg Carnation dried milk. Used; (4) .55/1 brillo, .50/1 milk. Total OOP: $16.23

So I went to CS to enquire what the deal was w/ #2. I knew it wasn’t right and I did not feel comfortable with just walking out. They mulled over both receipts, the CSM came over, she mulled over as well. The end result, I got to keep the .21 and didn’t owe them anything. I’m still scratching my head on that one seriously!!!

Didi look for the Buffalo News – it too has blech coupons, but it has at least four times the blech coupons the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle paper does. More blech for your money! :-D We received the Trident coupon, and I nearly fell over when I saw our Chock Full o’Nuts coupon was 75¢/1.

Didi October 30, 2011 at 3:43 pm

I noticed today Ann that RA sells Buffalo News. I will be def. buying them… dh and I are seriously considering cancelling our subscription for the paper!! I mean I already pay for OOT, what is the point of paying IN TOWN when you get NO inserts that are valuable and can use??? He’s crunching the #’s. The only thing that is stopping me thus far is that Rochester get’s the higher value for the drug stores and I don’t have to leave the house…..

Why do the MQ think… that Rochester and Buffalo for that matter live on doggie and kitty treats and CLEANING PRODUCTS?? No seriously?? Then because were not eating normal, they give us pain relievers?? For real?? Are you freaking kidding me????? :-( :-( :-(
Or, wait, wait, we have GIGANTIC FAMILIES so we have to buy 10 of something to get $1.00 off… REALLY???

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

admin October 30, 2011 at 3:55 pm

I’d look at the inserts before I bought the News, Didi – you have that great Florida subscription and all!

Buffalo/Rochester used to be the #1 coupon redemption area in the US – for years and years. A few years ago it dropped to #3, and in light of the never-ending recession, I would not doubt if it dropped further. My point? Big coupon redemption area + double coupons = lousy FSI inserts.

Didi October 30, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Ann I just wish I could get them on Saturday instead of Monday if you know what I mean!! :-(

Anyway, dh’s #’s are saying we might just cancel. Especially since we have a new carrier and he put’s “some inserts” in the paper an other’s not dontcha ya know!! Today I got 3 Michael’s, 1 Joann & 1 AC Moore. It was the AC Moore I wanted more of, I wanted to replace my pastry bag tubes and get more liners… dangit all Ann!!!

Darla October 31, 2011 at 7:49 am

There have been very few food coupons in the AJC too. My subscription expires in November. They sent me a renewal bill last week. They want $122.40 for Sunday ONLY delivery. I’m shocked! That’s $2.35 per paper… some Sunday’s there aren’t any inserts so I may cancel home delivery and pick a paper up at Rite Aid for $1.60. I feel for you Didi… tons of pet treats, cleaning and medicine coupons but very little food. Plus the value of the coupons for stuff I use has decreased significantly.

Terri October 31, 2011 at 1:19 pm

Darla, Why subscribe to any paper when you can order exactly what you want on eBay? I cancelled my paper subscription a couple years ago and now just order the coupons I know I’m going to use. Save a ton of money that way because nothing goes to waste. And then, too, you can ask your friends and neigbors for their unused inserts to supplement your binder with what you don’t get on eBay. Just a suggestion.

Rebecca October 30, 2011 at 3:49 pm

So funny Didi! Now that I know you are a Rocha-cha person I was thinking this morning that you would probably have something to say about our inserts this week! My new rule (after buying 7 extra papers this morning) will be to LOOK over EVERY insert to be sure they are worth it. YUCK!

Didi October 30, 2011 at 4:09 pm

The path wasn’t too bad but the boots came in handy because there were some icy spots. I had a problem at the first Rite Aid. The cashier was reading the coupon and said I could only use one because it said “one per purchase”. I told her to cancel the order and then walked over to the second Rite Aid.

I had much better luck there. I did 4 transactions and ended up with 46 UP2U gums, 2 Bufferin, 2 Cover Girl blush and 2 Wonderful Pistachios. I used $60 in manufacturers’s coupons (46 $1 UP2U, 2 Bufferin $2, 1 Covergirl $8/2 and 2 $1 Wonderful Pistachios) and $10 in +UPs that will expire on Saturday. My OOP was $8.22 of which $4.68 was sales tax. Both my friend and I will be getting a $6 rebate for the Bufferin. I used my friend’s card for all 4 transactions since I’m trying to build up her points. She had 669 before today’s shopping and I’ve added over 60 points today.

I still have lots of UP2U $1 coupons so I’ll try a third store tomorrow and I’ll probably go back to the first store and hope someone else is there. The Rite Aids around here have never enforced the limit of 4 like coupons unless you get a cashier that thinks one per purchase means one per transaction. Luckily, the UP2U gum doesn’t seem to be a hot item because the coupons aren’t from this week’s papers.

The reason I’m anxious to use as many of the UP2U coupons as I can this week is because it is a great way to build points without spending money. My friend will love the super cheap gum that only costs the sales tax but I’m more interested in getting her card to 1,000 points.

WTG Gita!! I wish I had more too! Apparently the kids really like this gum. If I ever can get the name right!! ;-)

I just read that Dollar General is having Libby’s veggies 2/$1, seeing as though it is three minutes away I did a quick run.

I bought 44 assorted veggies with 2013 expiration dates :) for .25cents each! I asked how many I could take and he said as many as I wanted, I felt kind of guilty until I went around the corner and there was a whole other shelf of them :)

While I was there I met a woman Melissa ((HI)) gave her your card, invited her to come by and say hello.

I just went to RA and did PG deal with tide. Got 9 tide used 9 $2 off coupons. It comes out to $2.32 per bottle of tide (plus tax) after coupons and +Ups. Not free or MM, but since I was running low on tide this price was good enough for me. Thanks, Ann!

I had so much fun today!! And it’s been a long time. 2 stores, the first most of you don’t have, Albertsons (SuperValu) but I am going to share anyway. P&G deal to buy 5 of certain items and get an auto $5 deduction. My favorite Mr. Clean erasers were included. If you have never used them, give them a try. LOVE ‘EM! Albs also had doublers today.

My transaction:
(6) Mr. Clean Erasers at $2.99 ea.
= $17.94
- $5 credit
-$5.98 (2) B2G1 Mr. Clean products from P&G 10/16
- $3.00 (4) 75 cents off Mr. Clean from HomeMade Simple bklet (exp 10/31)
-$2.25 in doublers (they will only double 3 in a transaction.)
= $1.71 (before tax) for 6 Mr. Clean Erasers. Woot!!

Then I went to “cough, cough” Walmart. When I walked in I discovered they had marked down all the Halloween candy 50%. First, I went over to the travel size items hoping to find the Tide travel size for 97 cents and use the $2.00 coupon in today’s P&G. No luck. But while there I noticed they had Crest Complete travel size for 97 cents. Had the $2.00 coupon
from ? , sorry can’t remember what insert.
So here is what I did. Stocked up for Christmas baking with the candy.

(4) Travel size crest = $3.88
(10) bags candy @$2.48 ea = $24.80
(2) bags caramels @ 1.99 ea =3.98 (no coupon, just couldn’t resist…:) )
Total = $32.66
- $14.39 for 1/2 off candy
=$18.27
- $8 (4) $2 Crest Coupons
-$6 (4) $1.50 various candy coupons, Hersheys, M&M’s, snickers, etc.
=$4.27 before tax. Yea!!

Now if I can just keep my pea pickin’ fingers out of the candy!!

My shopping was a bit interesting. I wanted the olay regenerist so did my deal at CVS.
$20.99 Olay night cream
$7.99 CG lip perfection
$3.99 CG eye shadow

The cashier did not know how to input the coupon “buy olay moisturizer get lip perfection free”. So, he voided the lipstick in exchange for the coupon. I told him he couldn’t do that because it was part of an ECB deal and the store wouldn’t be reimbursed for the coupon. The manager was called and he also voided the lipstick from my order and manually printed the ECB because my order was over $30 before the lipstick was removed. My transaction was holding up the line so I didn’t push the issue further…sighs.

OMG, I scored, literally, an entire cartful of stuff at RA! I had/used a boatload of Covergirl $8/2 coupons; used up my Olay coupons as well. The $1/1 Up2U single pack coupons will net you free gum; the $1/1 Tic Tac coupons get you free Tic Tacs. I used the Glam Camp coupons to get free bonus packs of Got2Be, free Jesse’s Girl nail polish, and other stuff. Had more $3/2 Pantene coupons so scored big on that. All told, I got a little over $343 worth of stuff for about $36, but will get back $13 in RA rebates, $20 in P&G rebates, and have $17 in +UPS for next time. So basically, everything was free and I made money on the trip. Of course, shopping took almost 3 hours so that was the downside. Still, a really good day and a great trip!

Here in Brooklyn, NY, my Wall Street Journal sub has coupons in the saturday/weekend edition. I have been seeing offers for 6 months free sub lately so maybe ppl can try that route. I also receive the WSJ at my other home in MA and we don’t get coupons in that subscription.
