Mall Shopping

by admin on June 14, 2009

I get my hair done in the mall and occasionally will take a look around or stop at a store if there is a great deal. Even though the mall I frequent has over 200 stores, I never seem that interested. My niece is getting married next month and I only have so many “pretty dresses” none that are less than four years old and all have been worn many, many times. I decided I wanted (ok, it was decided for me by other interested parties) a new “pretty dress”.

Now, let me state up front that while I can squeeze a nickle until the buffalo squeaks, mall shopping is not my area of expertise. I have never been a clothes horse (unlike my husband… he FILLS four closets in our house including two walk-ins and he has umpteen bins down the basement full of clothes) and can fit all my clothing into a dresser and half a small closet. And, to add to my dislike of shopping, I have an extremely high arch leading me to have to purchase a wide shoe. This I could never figure out with high heels because I would figure a high arch would be perfect in heels. Nope. Instead it can be really painful unless the shoe fits really well.

While I was at the mall last week I decided to shop for a dress. I love Lord and Taylor and will shop their sales with a coupon over just about any store in my area. Lord and Taylor fits in with my “buy good stuff so you don’t have to buy again for years” clothing philosophy. I used to love LL Bean for the same reason when they had most of their stuff made in the USA. I still buy Bean-Jeans, but they don’t seem to fit like they used to. Now I can hear you saying, “ummm yeah, THAT is it. LL Bean cuts the stuff differently. Uh huh, suuuuuure they do.” Seriously though… I may have blogger-butt but when you order two pair of jeans both the same style, both the same size, and one arrives too big and one is too small, it ain’t me, it is them. We don’t have a Dillards in the area and that makes me sad. Some of the things my mothers gets in Florida when they have their 70%+ sales makes me so jealous! She did not have to shop for a “pretty dress” because she got a beauty at Dillards for under $50 this past spring.

Today I headed to a different mall and I had a purse full of coupons including Lord & Taylor 25% off, (2) JC Penney $10/$10, a $10/$25 for Yankee candle and something for Bath & Body Works. I wanted to be prepared.

So what does all this babbling leading up to?

I love zappos!

(Bet you never saw that coming!)

They’ve been around a long time and wow I miss their promo codes; I guess when you are the biggest and the best you don’t need promotional codes anymore. Today in the mall as I looked at the selection of shoes, all in a solid B width, I knew it was futile. Nevertheless I dutifully tried on the shoes my niece thought would look good with the dress I purchased – and people wonder why I buy black or black-based dresses? Hello! I have a closet full of black shoes, sandals and boots. No need to try and find a pair of shoes in a wide width when I can pull out a pair form my closet. Today I was talked into an aqua colored dress and the idea of black sandals was instantly nixed. Soooo heading over shoe department I tried on shoes.

And all the while I chanted, “I-love-zappos. I-love-zappos.”

So, when nothing fit comfortably, I came home and placed an order in my correct size and width for several pairs of shoes. I’ll send back what does not work and I still have time for another round if nothing does fit well.

I love zappos!

Blogger-Butt!!! LOL – Maybe I should stop blogging before it happens to me too. I wonder if my feet will grow rendering me to only wide size…wait, I’m already there, so don’t have to worry about that!

Hi Ann! Just got done reading your post and I enjoyed it! I currently work at Zappos, and I also have that hard to fit foot! But I mostly related with the mall shopping. My husband takes up way more of the dresser drawers and closet that I do.. but my shoes, and handbags overpower everything else. Anyways, I loved it! Hope that the shoes worked for you!

I hope you get great deals at Zappos through employee discounts, Stephanie. We went to the outlet in Vegas before and it was interesting to say the least! They had a lot of odd sizes at that store, so something for everyone.
