Holiday Joy With My Hubby

by Ann on December 23, 2009

My husband is, hands down, the world’s worst gift-getter. I do not think he’s ever liked anything I’ve purchased for him. About the only person that has ever given him anything he even sorta-likes is my mother.

Not kidding.

He’s turning into a bad gift giver too. This is a new development.

For a little back story…

I like to read. I always have. I could easily read a book a day if I had the time. When I did not have the cash, I used to visit the library and get out whatever. When I finally had some extra cash, Barnes and Noble became my very good friend. While I am not a bibliophile (I don’t have that kind of money), I am a bookworm.

And, I read mostly fiction.

This is a cardinal sin to hubby. Not that I read, but that I read fiction. And therefore it bothers him tremendously that I buy books because of the type of books I purchase.

For years I have asked for a Barnes & Noble gift card as a gift. He refuses to do it because he knows that regardless of how small the denomination, a B&N GC would be taken as his approval of my book-habit.

So, this year in addition to my request for a B&N gift card for Christmas, I asked for a Tim Horton’s gift card. As regular readers here know Timmie’s is my other waste-of-money habit.

So, tonight we went to Timmie’s because hubby wanted to go. While there he bought me a refillable mug – when you go through the drive thru you tell them you have a refillable mug and the mug size, and you get XX% off your coffee refill in that mug. You hand them the mug at the window. He also bought me a gift card (gee, nice surprise).

He asked the clerk, “What is the cheapest gift card you sell?”

The clerk told him, “$2″

So, hubby bought me a $2 Tim Horton’s gift card for Christmas.

Since it is “the thought that counts”, and I know what he was thinking, should I let him in on what I am thinking right now? Or should this $2 gift card last forever so that whenever he says to me “How much did you spend at Tim Horton’s?” I reply ” Nothing, I had a gift card!”

At least you did not get a cast iron skillet like I got a few years ago for Valentine’s Day!

If he can’t do better than that, I suggest you wrap up the colon cleanse kit for him!
