Heck yeah! Catching up with old friends PLUS all the freebies!!! I’m still not too sure about those freebies though-I have yet to receive my BOGO egg coupon and I was one of the first in the Lee Jeans contest where they promised everyone who entered before a certain time would get free jeans. No jeans yet……I even got an email saying I was on the list! Bummer…..

Hope you had fun at your blogging convention, Ann!

I have family all over the country so I check my Facebook like twice a week. I don’t post too much there but I do check what others are doing. BUT I have friends that are avid Facebookers.

I check it a few times a week, at first it was fun connecting with old friends, but it got a little boring after awhile.

I am one of the very few people in my generation who is not on facebook, probably the other one is my DH. My siblings both are and pretty much ALL my friends are. But we value our privacy and from speaking to friends, it’s takes a lot to maintain the separation btw work & personal. I know it’s the way to keep in touch and find old friends, but luckily 4 of my friends still found me through my college email which does not change (2 from childhood, 2 from college) which I thought was impressive since I don’t have FB acct. I do want all the freebies, but I don’t mind passing them up. If eventually I need it for networking then I will keep it from being too personal. It’s tough decision cause I know that’s how everyone gets their information now.

Facebook all day long!! Love it! But I don’t like becoming fan of alot of frugal blogs because they just use it for blog feed or networkblog which is just like the feed.

I LOVE Facebook for keeping in touch with friends. As a business tool I disagree with the perceived consensus that it’s good for that. I think businesses and products on Facebook more often than not either don’t “get it” or fail to capitalize on the medium. Twitter is a far superior tool for bloggers and businesses in my opinion.

Re: “Identity theft paradise.”

All due respect, you couldn’t be more wrong. The chances of getting ID thieved at an ATM or the supermarket are much greater than Facebook.

I’m on facebook, but I agree that for most blogs, you get the same thing on their RSS feed that you get on facebook.

Rhonda February 7, 2010 at 6:45 am

I use it a couple of times a day.

Well, here’s why I am asking.

The Coupons, Deals and More facebook page is pathetic. One friend, feed only. At this convention people have pretty much convinced me I need to figure out facebook, do the feed, but respond to comments via facebook too.

Buuuuuut here’s another question:

If I feed to facebook, why come to the blog? And if there are comments in two spots, won’t Coupons, Deals and More readers lose out on learning opportunities from others?

I’m on Facebook for *friends*, but I don’t like looking at deal pages on facebook. I would much rather come to the blog and see everyone’s comments.

Think of FB and Twitter as extensions of your blog not a substitute for or a competition with your blog. They are merely a way to expose it to new people or extended the CD&M “experience” for your P1 readers. Like I wrote earlier I feel Twitter is a far superior tool for achieving that. I can email you more specifics if you’d like.

Definitely. Facebook is great for keeping up with friends and I’ve gotten several great freebies from companies. For those who are worried about privacy, don’t put in the info you don’t want people to know. If you don’t give that info to Facebook, no one can get it from them. :)

Not really. I only signed up to take advantage of the occasional free product offers. I’ve gotten coupons for several free items so far but that has been the extent of my use of Facebook.

I like facebook for the freebies and to connect with people. Ann I sent it up to feed my post onto facebook, it doesn’t always catch them all, so to get “all” the good deals, people would have to check the site. If its a hot deal, I can add it to the facebook site. As far as being a good tool for your site, I think its nice, because people that didn’t know about your site, will see their friends becoming a “fan” and then can find out about your site that way. That is how I look at my facebook “fan” page. I have more ‘fan’s on my gooddealmama page than I do on my personal page, I don’t know if that is a good thing or sad thing! also a tip for those that sign up for “freebies” but don’t want to see the updates from the company or blog, when you see their update, if you put your mouse next to the update, you can hit “hide” and you won’t have to see their updates everyday, just when you check their page.

For family & friends I’d rather go old school and use the phone. I might peek in fb to keep an eye on hs and college-age relatives since they only text and fb. G-d forbid they lose their ability to text, their world will surely end. :P

For professional networking, I use linkedin [hate that too].

My cat though may use fb for the occasional freebie from companies.

Ann,

If I see a blurb flow through on FB from a blog, I will immediately go to that blog. It lets me know something has changed. I will check facebook before I check blogs a lot of times. Plus, it really is a great way to get to know your audience. Personally, I would love it. The blurb on FB is really short so it links to the blog and you come right over. It may actually increase traffic.

Rhonda

And, I missed your posts. Your humor makes my day sometimes.

Rhonda, I just wrote up a loooooong review of the conference which I toned down considerably. I did not want to hurt any feelings by naming names. :-P Anyhooooo I’m going to break it up over three days so if someone gets bored and does not want to read anymore, it doesn’t take up the main page. My original, unedited version was quite the doozy. I should offer it up to those that appreciate sarcasm.

And BTW, idjit son called me while I was in Nashville to ask what he should do about the dead battery on his car.

*blink*

Not only was I 1,000 miles away and unable to offer assistance other then “get a jump”, his father is an excellent backyard mechanic and his grandfather was a mechanic for 40 years!?

Why. Call. Me?

Ann,

Your son called you because kids in trouble ALWAYS call their moms! I remember one time watching a news report where a girl got her car stuck on a train track and the train was pushing her along…. and did she use her cell phone to call the fire department or to call 911? Nope she called MOM!

I follow a few bloggers on FB. But I much prefer reading the actual blog. I will often click the link in FB that takes me to the blog.
