On May 31st I ran a Holiday Contest where a second entry could be earned for sharing a frugal, deal hunting, couponing, or rebating tip! Some were common sense, some were “wow, I never thought of that!”, some I disagreed with, and some were, er, umm dicey.
So, what I thought I’d do over the next month is take five of those responses daily and give you my take on the advice. I’d love for people to add their thoughts and ideas too. And if this seems familiar, yup I did this last year too! I LOVE my reader’s tips and ideas. No matter how long you play this “game” you can always learn something new. Thank you all for providing your wisdom and insight!

The tip that has always helped me while couponing is – keep your ground. Call corp if needed, you are not doing anything wrong!!!
Agreed!

Before I go to the store, I write a list of items needed and wanted in my family. I try to hit the deals for those items. This way I am not hitting every deal there is, just because it’s a bargain. Which is what I did in the beginning of my coupon journey.
Thanks for the tip Rose

My advice is to do your best but keep it light. When I have trouble with making a deal work because of something out of my control I just smile and decide if I will argue my point or just walk out without purchasing from that store.
I also check shelf prices and write them down if there are a lot of items that day. Then I watch, sometimes not carefully enough, when things are being run up. I have also learned which stores raised prices on RR or ECB items
Sounds like you keep good track of the prices in your area, Chris. We should all do that.

I’m pretty new to couponing, so I’m not sure I have any very original tips. I guess what I’ve learned is to keep your eyes open, you never know when you’ll come across a coupon – I’ve gotten them at a sample table at an outdoor festival, in magazines I was reading for work, and other places when I wasn’t even thinking about looking!
It is always good to remind people to keep their eyes open, Laura. I’ve found coupons in the oddest places!

Get to know your store butcher, they will mark down meats lower at times. I was buying some meats that were marked down and He put the prices even lower!
Wow! That’s great Marcie!
