Frugal Tips from Coupons, Deals and More Readers!

by admin on June 21, 2010

On May 31st I ran a Holiday Contest where a second entry could be earned for sharing a frugal, deal hunting, couponing, or rebating tip! Some were common sense, some were “wow, I never thought of that!”, some I disagreed with, and some were, er, umm dicey.

So, what I thought I’d do over the next month is take five of those responses daily and give you my take on the advice. I’d love for people to add their thoughts and ideas too. And if this seems familiar, yup I did this last year too! I LOVE my reader’s tips and ideas. No matter how long you play this “game” you can always learn something new. Thank you all for providing your wisdom and insight!

Stand up for yourself at the drugstore, i always have the rite aid coupon policy handy and i whip it out if they don’t allow me to use coupons according to their policy. They end up respecting you also

Having the store coupon policy with you can indeed save headaches and eliminate problems. Thanks for the reminder Chani!

A good tip ….. always stock up on the items that you regularly use when they are on sale (with a coupon, of course) and then you won’t have to go and pay full price when you really need it. This has saved me a ton! I love a good stock-pile!

Stockpiles are good! Thanks Rachel.

My tip is prepare all your coupons and know what you want to buy before you leave the house. I rarely carry my big coupon binder anymore. It really saves time, especially when shopping with a small child! Sometimes I miss out on a deal I know I have a coupon for, but if it’s a great deal, I’ll go back and get it!!!

Wow! Colleen is my twin! My handy-dandy coupon organizer! A red envelope.

My tip is to try to stack as many promotions as you can to get the most out of the deal, Manufacturers coupons, catalina offers, store sales and coupons and additional manufacturers promotions and rebates. This is not always possible, every now and then, you can put together the perfect deal, with a little work. I just got a great deal last month on Kelloggs cereal at Raley’s and Safeway. I stacked manufactures coupons, $3.00 oyno catalina wyb4,$4 oyno wyb 5, $12 movie cash wyb4, and free movie cash on Disney movie (Toy Story 3 Promotion codes inside box) and ended up with the following 16 free movie tickets and 48 boxes of cereal for $27 out of pocket. Why did I buy so much cereal? Well, for the movie tickets, of course. My daughter was having a Shrek movie party on her birthday, which happened to fall on the opening day of the movie. I was planning just to spend the $100+ for the matinee show for 3 adults and 7 kids for the 3D movie (tickets here are $10 for kids and $12 for adults), but along came this deal. I ended up getting everyone in for free, with 6 Disney movie tickets left to use over the next year, plus a boat load of cereal for just about 1/4 of what I would have spent just on the movie tickets for my daughters birthday alone! The movie was so-so, but the kids loved it and they had a blast!

Nice Carol, very nice! How’d you like Toy Story 3? Sonny-boy actually called me up to go with him. I think for him it was closure, and he loved it!

The only thin I can think of that is not mentioned that I do is pay with everything with one of my credit cards that offers reward points and cash back which makes each purchase just a little sweeter.

I do the same think Steve. Charge everything, pay off the balance each month and rake in the rewards! Nice tip
