I ran a contest July 14 – July 16th. Given away were over $150 in coupons and gift cards. The “price” of entry was a frugal tip. Some were common sense, some were “wow, I never thought of that!”, some I disagreed with, and some were, er, umm dicey.
So, what I thought I’d do over the next month is take five of those responses daily and give you my take on the response. I’d love for people to add their thoughts and ideas too.

My money saving tip is to check out books and movies from the library rather than purchasing them or going to the theaters! This saves tons of money!
Wonderful tip!

Brand loyalty has it’s rewards in many different ways — going to the same store for example. The staff recognizes you and knows you are a frequent customer and will take special care of you. My CVS gives me the next week’s flyer early – I know we can get it on line, but it’s easier to have it in hand!!
Wow! Even in most of my most frequently shopped stores no one would recognize me (Rite Aid at the corner is the exception)

My best money saving tip is when you see a REALLY good deal on something stock up!! Better to buy when its cheap than have to pay more when you need it!
Yup.

My best savings tip is to match the coupons with the sales ad and also to avoid spending more than you have! I know I do this by not having a credit card, but it’s just a good reminder not to put anything on plastic.
We put every single thing we can on credit cards. I usually pay cash for items I get specifically for rebates, even then hubby would prefer I use a credit card. Not only can we keep better track of our spending by seeing on one (ok three) statements what we spend every month, but we also get rewards and since we pay off our cards every month, those rewards are free.

A tip is that I use a regular binder and staple coupons together to make it easier to move them around.
Hubby taught me to staple rather than paper clip. I have to say it does usually work out better.

I have to agree w/ Ann of tip #109. My husband and I get cash back.
EVERYTING goes on the card(s). Pay the card off in full each month and wait for the check in the mail. Because each card has set it’s own annual maximum reward/payout-we have more than 1 card. When one maxes out-we switch to another.
This is the best program ever-who’d have thought that credit card companies PAY you for the privilige of using their card. (instead of the other way around.) The key is-and I cannot strees this enough-pay the card off each and every month.
(When I do my on-line shopping at those rebate portals AND use the card AND use a promo code I get giggly and tingly all over.
