Frugal Tips from Coupons, Deals and More Readers!

by admin on July 21, 2009

I ran a contest July 14 – July 16th. Given away were over $150 in coupons and gift cards. The “price” of entry was a frugal tip. Some were common sense, some were “wow, I never thought of that!”, some I disagreed with, and some were, er, umm dicey.

So, what I thought I’d do over the next month is take five of those responses daily and give you my take on the response. I’d love for people to add their thoughts and ideas too.

Coupons pop up in the strangest places. Pick up magazines and brochures specific to your area and find great deals on local restaurants and things to do.

They certainly do! Check all your magazines, the doctor’s office, the dentist’s office, the blood pressure machine at the grocery store! Look at shippers, on end caps and even pasted to the freezer aisle doors. Coupons abound if you keep your eyes open.

Drink the water from your tap…fill water in reusable containers

first time commenter long time reader…and by the way I love you….this is not a selfish ploy either

Hmmmm strangely enough Debi was one of the winners.

We use a Brita Water filter. Because bottled water is useful on occasion I purchase it in conjunction with a nbpr form so any expense is reimbursed.

Keep up with the sale cycles and match up with coupons. Have your own price book so you can easily tell the bottom line, not to be fool by sale.

The Price Book and its variants were mentioned many times as a useful tool for shop the sales.

It might seem “slow”, but believe me we are reading! So please keep up awesome work!

My 2 cents: Do your homework before going shopping and have a back up plan for your scenarios. If a shopping trip does not go as planned (i.e. staff is not cooperating), get your coupons back and leave, then go to another store on the next corner – one of then will take your coupons! Keep saving, don’t be discouraged.

The back-up plan is extremely important. If something is OOS or a sale price is redacted, a Plan B can turn a potentially wasted trip into a successful one.

I match sale prices with coupons and price match. This saves me tons on groceries.

This is Couponing 101… the very basics and where everyone has to begin.
