Frugal Tips from Coupons, Deals and More Readers!

by admin on August 2, 2009

I ran a contest July 14 – July 16th. Given away were over $150 in coupons and gift cards. The “price” of entry was a frugal tip. Some were common sense, some were “wow, I never thought of that!”, some I disagreed with, and some were, er, umm dicey.

So, what I thought I’d do over the next month is take five of those responses daily and give you my take on the response. I’d love for people to add their thoughts and ideas too.

I have found that it truly pays off to bring the competing store’s ads with you when you are shopping at your local grocery store. I organize my coupons by expiration date and what I need, allowing me to walk down the isles and control the amount I am spending. I have saved a bundle by pricematching and doublestacking coupons!

Wegman’s (where I seldom shop) does accept competitor coupons. Probably because they don’t have a sale or coupon of their own They have coupon-envy. :-P Anyhoooo I will bring Tops doublers in when I know something is cheaper at Wegmans or when I want to do multiple doubler orders without the minimum purchase requirement. Wegmans allows it, Tops does not. It does pay to know your local store’s coupon and competitor ad policy!

We save over $2000 a year, just by bringing our own coffee to work each day in a thermos.

Yeah, but are you happy?

Tiiiiiimiiiiiiie’s!

I have to shop on a budget. We only budget a small amount for groceries every two weeks and this has to be for EVERYTHING!!! I shop the sales, coupon shop, and shop at the discount stores…all so I can provide the best for my family!! It takes planning and organization…but I actually enjoy it!

Always carry your coupons with you. You never know when you might need them! Also, try your best to plan out your meals. That way you don’t end up with half a supermarket in your pantry because you keep forgetting you have stuff.

This is an excellent tip. I should follow it. :-P

I bring my lunch to school everyday. It doesn’t just save me money either — it saves me calories!

Good advice!
