Contest Time!

by admin on August 12, 2010

New day, new contest! While I am not a big contest fan, I have so many free coupons to give away I need to start giving ‘em out! So, I will be running daily, 24 hour contests for the next few (or 10) days to share the wealth of coupons I gathered at BlogHer

Here’s what I am giving away today:

  • (2) Hillshire Farms Lunchmeat Coupons (value to $5.99 each) expire 9/19/10
  • (2) Jimmy D’s Products (value to $6.99 each) expires 12/31/10 ($25.96 approximate total retail value of this prize)

To Enter:

  • Comment on one of the posts on this blog (comments are closed on the contest, you have to find another post to comment on)

The fine print:

  • One word (or image) responses and spam will not count.
  • I reserve the right to remove inappropriate (as deemed solely by me) responses.
  • Comments must be made in the 24 hour period of 8/12/10 12:01 am eastern – 11:59 pm eastern.
  • Limit two (2) entries per person or ip address. If you comment more than twice it will be appreciated, but only two comments will be considered entries.
  • Make certain your responses have a valid email attached (only I will see it)
  • A total of one (1) prize winner (as listed above) will be notified via email provided and have 48 hours to respond.
  • Valid in the USA only.
  • Contest ends at 11:59 pm eastern on 8/12/10

Looks like I will be fairly busy (I hope) keeping track of responses. BTW, if you have never commented on this blog, or if you have changed email addresses since your last comment, your comment will not be visible until I approve it… although that usually happens pretty darned quick!

Thank you so much for your participation!

*Contest Over! We Have Winners!* Contest Time!

by admin on July 14, 2009

This is a sticky. Scroll below this post for new site posts and information

This blog is fairly slow Tuesday – Thursday with comments and responses, so I decided to run a contest. As regulars to Coupons, Deals and More know, I am not a paid blogger. My contests aren’t for great gift packs, vacuums or vacations. The prizes are items I scrounged up from my desk that I think might be useful enough to people to entice them to enter.

To enter, please respond to this post with any good savings tip, trip or idea you may have. It does not have to be coupon related, it can be anything related to saving money! I will pick the entrants randomly, so make sure when you reply you are using a real email address you can access so I can contact you when you win. ;-) . Under no circumstance should you post any personal information in the post I’ll edit that part out if you do. :-) If you have a blog, please post your blog url it in your response so others may visit. Limit one (1) entry per ip address (name, address, household, etc)

Contest ends at 10 pm eastern on Thursday, July 16, 2009

.

So, what am I giving away?

Well, for every 10 people that enter I will add another prize pack (maximum 10 prize packs offered). The first person picked will get their choice of prize package regardless of their entry number (I use a randomizer), then the second person gets second choice, etc., etc. I will start off with 2 packs and hope at least 20 people will respond.

Prize Pack #1

$15 Walgreen’s Gift Card

Prize Pack #2

$20 Rite Aid Gift Card

Prize Pack #3

$15 CVS Gift Card

Prize Pack #4

(1) Free Cascade Rinse Agent expires 9/30/09
(3) Free Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Coupons (value to $4.50) expires 7/31/09
(10) Finish/Electrasol $2.50 manufacturer coupons expires 8/9/09

Prize Pack #5

Prize Pack #6

$15 Walgreen’s Gift Card

Prize Pack #7

$20 Rite Aid Gift Card

Prize Pack #8

$15 Target Gift Card

Prize Pack #9

$15 Walgreens Gift Card (getting kinda redundant, sorry)

Prize Pack #10

$15 CVS Gift Card

Here are our winners in order:

1) Joanne Schultz (#37) Prize Pack #1
2) Angie (#80) Prize Pack #5
3) Kenny (#27) Prize Pack #6
4) Debi (#7) Prize Pack #8
5) Harley (#70) Prize Pack #2
6) Eleya (#112) Prize Pack #9
7) Amy (#67) Prize Pack #4
8 ) Alyssa (#54) Prize Pack #3
9) Cali (#24) Prize Pack #7
10) Melanie (#85) Prize Pack #10

I wrote the numbers after the names so there shouldn’t be any question of who won. If I am off by a number, the NAME listed is the winner and not the number listed. The number is a personal reference for me.

So, here’s what happens now:
I email Joanne and she chooses any one of the 10 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Angie and she chooses any one of the 9 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Kenny and he chooses any one of the 8 prizes available. After he has chosen,
I email Debi and she chooses any one of the 7 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Harley and and s/he chooses one any of the 6 prizes available. After s/he has chosen,
I email Eleya and she chooses any one of the 5 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Amy and she chooses any one of the 4 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Alyssa and she chooses any one of the 3 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Cali and she chooses any one of the 2 prizes available. After she has chosen,
I email Melanie and she receives the final prize.

Until the coupons are chosen this may take a while to distribute. Everyone who receives an email will have 24 hours to get back to me before they lose their place in line and they’ll go to the bottom. If at the end I can’t contact a winner after a second email and 48 hours passes, the prize will go back into the pot for my next contest.

I’m going to use all these great suggestions in a series over the next few weeks.

Thank you so much for your participation!

My absolutely best saving tip would have to be:. Visit “Coupons Deals and More” at LEAST twice per day for awesome coupons and freebee deals. Ann is by far the best and most active blogger out there!

Knowledge of the price range for an item is a valuble tool to help a bargain hunter spend his or her money wisely.

Ginger July 14, 2009 at 5:03 pm

I’ve always (mistakenly) thought Walmart had pretty much the best prices on everything…well, in the last month, I have learned different by using information I’ve learned from this site and others. Knowing prices for the items you routinely buy is absolutely critical! You think I’m kidding?? Take a notepad & write a few down, including size info, and just compare them to the weekly deals talked about here. I’ll never pay $12 for a package of Bounty papertowels or $3 for toothpaste at Walmart ever again!!

Keep up with the sale cycles and match up with coupons. Have your own price book so you can easily tell the bottom line, not to be fool by sale.

Reply

TB July 14, 2009 at 5:37 pm

It might seem “slow”, but believe me we are reading! So please keep up awesome work!

My 2 cents: Do your homework before going shopping and have a back up plan for your scenarios. If a shopping trip does not go as planned (i.e. staff is not cooperating), get your coupons back and leave, then go to another store on the next corner – one of then will take your coupons! Keep saving, don’t be discouraged.

I match sale prices with coupons and price match. This saves me tons on groceries. If I win I would prefer the Walgreens prize, because, unfortunately, there are no Rite Aids in my area. Great prizes! Thank you!

Use those half a boxes of cereal the family is losing interest in to make snack mix. I mix puff and o type cereals with peanuts, m&ms and raisins. You can add any dried fruit , pretzels, etc. Great way to use up some cheap cerals.

Keep a list of what you need and wait for them to go on sale. Read the Sunday ads and the Wednesday food ads. For the food ads, know which stores run out if you don’t go the first day, and which stores aren’t even going to have their sale items the first day. You can save A LOT of time and money this way.

Get a feed reader going and find a bunch of blogs (including this one!) to subscribe to that can help you with your deals. I have some local ones that help me with my local grocery store deals.

I am knew to couponing, so practically everything I know I’ve learned from this blog! I check it several times a day, and it’s always full of great info. It helps me a lot.

My tip — buy coupons and rebate offers from Ebay sellers. Coupons are regional and we don’t always get the good ones. Also, good coupons in the stores get depleted quickly, so they are hard to find. You can find almost anything on Ebay.

Reply

Cheryl Greenleaf July 14, 2009 at 7:20 pm

I cut out coupons every week from the Sunday newspaper. Then I make sure to check the weekly sales flyer from my local grocery store and look for double deals, items that are on sale and have a coupon.

When printing coupons, flip the paper to the other side to use the unused portion of the paper. Save $$$ save a tree.

Cool – I’m not the only one posting random comments for Ann about my lovely NYC stores/experiences!

My tip (that I should follow myself): Be organized the coupons when you get to the store (I never can find my cpns while in the store to use them or I lose them on the way there – my own fault). Put them in an envie before going to the store.

Browse the stores for clearance items if you have time. Also trading for cpns can be fun too – then you don’t have to do ebay unless you want to.

As a ‘disabled and can’t drive’ older woman, I’m lucky hubby does all the grocery shopping for us. He flat refuses to go from store to store and just goes to the one near our house. He WILL use any coupons I have found online or that come in the mail, etc. and follows the written list I’ve made so I can at least try new recipes. By not going to the store until it is an ‘absolute have-to’, less is spent overall. AND we have regular ‘rerun’ nights for dinner (left overs). Which also saves money.

Being a GOOD couponer takes many hours a week. BUT it is so worth it. I bought $130 of stuff from Kmart last week for $27 and bought $71 for $7 at Superfresh with Kmart’s $2 doubles and Superfresh’s triple coupons. I now have enough paper towels to last a lifetime (Viva $2.59 – $.85 (tripled) = .04) Now that is within my budget!!!! That’s just one of the awesome deals from Superfresh this week (good until Thursday!) Course it took me hours preping to go just to those two locations. BUT SOOOOO worth it. But it would have taken me twice as long without Ann’s blog! You’re the best!!!

Money savings tips … Read Ann’s blog regularly … submit as many NBPR rebates as you can possibly get your hands on … get the baby off formula and out of diapers (yea, that’s gonna be a while yet, but I can dream can’t I?) … shop Kohl’s clearance w/30% coupons and free shipping … garage sales can be GREAT for kids toys!

Whenever I print just a single coupon, I save the unused peice and actually re-use it when I have other single coupons to print.

Get your coupons out of a box and into a binder. I use the trading card pages ($5 for 30 at Target) to put all my coupons in so I can quickly flip through my book and see all my coupons. I score some great deals shopping the clearance sections of the stores I visit.

I really started saving when I learned about using coupons with sale prices, using two coupons on BOGO deals, and reading blogs like this one to discover unadvertised and other spectacular deals. I am grateful to the large community of people who make this fun possible!!!

I cut out coupons every week from the Sunday newspaper. Then I make sure to check the weekly sales fliers from my local grocery stores and look for double deals, items that are on sale and have a coupon. I always stop at Smith’s grocery to look for 10 for $10 deals.

Being from southern Calfornia deals are much harder to find out here. No doubles, no triples and lower coupon denomination usually. With the cost of living so ridiculous, getting creative with money is a must do. We use a budget and stick to it. Use any and all coupons we can. We lowered our cell phone bill and got rid of a home phone all together. We plan ahead and stockpile. We gave up bottled water and fabric softner (at least until I can find a great deal on it LOL). We also recycle as much a possible and when my child was a baby I breastfed.

Reply

Layla July 15, 2009 at 2:13 am

How do I save money? Well, other than coupons, we also cancelled our home phone and use only cell phones. That saved us at least $35/month. We cut the premium channels, and only subscribe during times we want to watch our shows. Right now, we are subscribing to HBO for 3 months for True Blood. Why pay for the whole year, when we only want it for the season, right?

Also, I just gave up buying bottled water in lieu of a sale at Target last week on Brita water filtration system and filters. It has taken a bit getting used to, but spending $50 dollars for a whole year of water, is alot better than spending $15-$20 dollars a month on it!

Also, cooking at home and not eating out. That cut a big chunk from our monthly budget.

Thanks for a great giveaway!

Shop thrift stores… I find great stuff there all the time. Some brand new, some used but in great shape! I have more purses than I will ever be able to use!! Usually you are helping out an non-profit organization at the same time.

For great clothing deals, check out your local thrift stores. Not only are they affordable every day but they also often have days where they have special promotions and deals. One of my local thrift clothing stores has a sale every Sunday where you pay $5 for a bag with as much clothing as you can fit into it.

Howdy! My tip is for everyone who likes to dine out “on a budget” is to visit restaurant/store sites and register! (sites like longhorn, cold stone creamery, ruby tuesday, etc..) I’ve received tons of free stuff through email coupons..ie: free appitizers! free desserts! free meals! And tons of other money saving coupons! Also, when you register with many of the sites they will send you “Birthday Gift emails” for free items around your bday!(my bday’s coming up and I have tons of free things to “cash in” :)

One of my favorite tips is to swap coupons with others. My mom and I each get a newspaper on Sunday and then cut our own coupons out. Then we switch with each other and have a chance at getting more. It beats paying for coupons with a service unless you need more than 2.

For people that don’t want to coupon but want to save money: SHOP THE SALES! Buying in bulk from costco/bjs/sams/ect does not generally save much money. Following the grocery store sales will save you tons. Buy what you use when it’s on sale, not just when you run out and need something.

Take advantage of websites that pay you to web surf or answer their e-mails. Sites like mypoints, swagbucks, and inbox dollars are great for those that don’t want to make too much of a commitment to something, but are able to check their e-mail at least once a day.

I’ve gotten 7 gift cards from mypoints since february just for clicking a box on each of their e-mails. A little bit of points can add up to a lot of points in no time.

A good money saving tip…eat a big meal before you go to the store. You’ll buy a lot less on impulse and will be more likely to stick to your list!

Reply

Reuse what you have, and have a waiting period for bigger-ticket items. Don’t buy them on impulse. If you still think you need it in two days, go for it!

My saving tip would be to go grocery shopping well planned…have a list, have corresponding coupons for the products you want to buy in a seperate envelope and when you reach the store, rush to buy what you want and get out.Dont buy any extras unless you see a swell clearance price and have a corresponding coupon in your binder!

Reply

Sharon Ressler July 15, 2009 at 5:20 pm

I check on all the deals and pull out the coupons for the ones I need. I make my list food first and the a other section (I’m even thinking about breaking that down to) then I put my coupons in order as they appear on my list. My organizer (the Couponizer)has a section for the coupons your going to use and then a section to pull them and put them into cash registor section. So, then you have your coupons altogether and your other coupons filed in sections behind there so if you hit some clearence items your coupons are right there. Thanks for the chance to enter the prizes all look great although I have no idea where a Rite Aid would be – never heard of it. Thanks again.

I try to always get extra mileage from coupons for free items. For example, from mycokerewards.com, I had two coupons — each for a free 20 oz. coke. Today I used them at Walgreens since a pack of Wrigley’s 5 Gum was free with purchase of two cokes. End result: Two cokes and pack of gum were free. Also, I recently used a coupon for free sour cream on a BOGO sale at Tops. End result: Two free pints of sour cream.

Don’t be afraid to buy things off season. For instance…I just got all of my kids Christmas shopping done in July because of the fabulous sale Kmart was having last week on toys. I often buy clothes off season for the following year to get the best prices!

I’m a bookworm. If possible I check them out from the library or buy them at Goodwill instead of doing retail. I can get around 10-15 books for the price of a new hardcover.
Thanks for doing the giveaway!

I would say my best money tip is look to the right hand side of the page you are visting and you can find other blogs to visit, which helps find more deals.

I am amazed at the homemade cleaning products I have found I can make from just vinegar, baking soda, alcohol, and water. I no longer need to buy things like Soft Scrub, surface cleaners, bathroom cleaners, drain cleaners, and more. I like that I am not only saving money but also helping the environment. I can’t believe that I used to pay $2-4 for stuff like Windex!!!

It’s not always about coupons. Picking the right places to shop is even more important. See article here:

I’ll share a money saving tip for clothes: Hit the thrift store on discount day! I visit the Salvation Army store almost every Wednesday for half off their already crazy low prices.

One of the ways I’ve saved a LOT of money lately is to use our local Freecycle as well as craigslist to get things we need for free or much cheaper than buying them new. Thanks for the give away!

I save lots of money by transfering my perscriptions! Like right now I have transfered it to walgreens.. I will pay $15 for the perscription and get a $25 gift card out of it. This week I will get extra savings by using the $5 off $25 coupon good for today & tomorrow! I love creative savings!! :)

ONe of my savings tips is to use your crockpot! I use my crockpot to cook dried beans and it is much cheaper than buying the came amount of canned. It is also better for the environment! You can also make yogurt in your crockpot and make it for MUCH cheaper than what you find in the store!

Most people hate the thought, but leftover night is very useful. It keeps us from being wasteful, and it cuts down on that week’s grocery spending.

This may sound like a strange savings tip, but spend money upfront on quality cookware and knives. If you have good equipment in the kitchen you’ll come to enjoy cooking and your restaurant and take out bills with fall dramatically!

Hang out your laundry…not only does it save energy, it gets you outside enjoying the lovely outdoors! We live in the city, but we still have rigged up a little clothesline in our backyard and I LOVE it!

I have a menu plan before going shopping. I check the ads to see what is on sale & plan all meals around that. I make sure I have all lunches & dinners w/ sides. I have a stand by of favorite dishes in case I get to the store and a different meat is on clearance.

Buy ready to eat, store cooked whole rotisserie chickens. They are healthier than eating fried chicken. But they can also help you save money. Buy double what your family eats and then use the “leftover” chicken for quick recipes such as: tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches, chicken salad, etc. These quicker and healthier meals, that you can have at home without having to buy restaurant or takeout food.

One of my favorite tips is combining Target coupons with manufacturer coupons. I’ve gotten many name brand items including formula, diapers, and wipes, for literally pennies on the dollar by doing this!

My money saving tip is to re-use EVERYTHING. Mesh bags that onions or oranges come in are great pot scrubbers. Plastic shopping bags make great garbage bags and paper shopping bags are great for wrapping packages or homemade wrapping paper. Try to avoid buying disposable items like paper towels and just use old clothes as rags.

Cut your dryer sheets in half. They work just as well as a full sheet and you save money.

My tip is when you find a good deal, stock up. There’s not much that you can’t freeze. Maybe see if you can pick up a cheap used freezer on CraigsList and you’ll be set up for major savings.

My money-saving tip is to shop grocery sales by using online helps (like pinchingyourpennies.com). They help me match up coupons and sales to the things I need. That way I can plan out great, home-cooked meals that leave me with leftovers for work lunches (which also saves money!)

Thanks for the great giveaway!

Learn how to can your own jelly. Pectin is so cheap, and if you can get berries on sale, it will save you some money AND reduce the amount of corn syrup in your diet!

I use everything up till it’s fully “gone”. I never buy new if I can make the old one do. I water down some of the products I use — not alot, and I call it “stretching” the contents. I also use Q-tips, or cut the plastic bottles my makeup comes in to use up every single drop. I can sometimes get another 3-4 days out of the container by doing this. Sometimes this does get silly when I think about it, but I do it anyway!

Hi! My best suggestion to save money is to READ THIS BLOG! You do such a fabulous job of letting us know where the deals are, I check your blog daily! I cannot believe the stockpiles I have been able to accumulate in the last 2 months I have been using coupons. Thanks for all your tips!

Brand loyalty has it’s rewards in many different ways — going to the same store for example. The staff recognizes you and knows you are a frequent customer and will take special care of you. My CVS gives me the next week’s flyer early – I know we can get it on line, but it’s easier to have it in hand!!

My best money saving tip is when you see a REALLY good deal on something stock up!! Better to buy when its cheap than have to pay more when you need it!

My best savings tip is to match the coupons with the sales ad and also to avoid spending more than you have! I know I do this by not having a credit card, but it’s just a good reminder not to put anything on plastic.

Hey there!
I’ve learned so much about combining coupons with store sales and rebates. Makes soo much free!

A tip is that I use a regular binder and staple coupons together to make it easier to move them around.

Before going clothes shopping, stop in at your local Goodwill (Salvation Army is cheaper) and see if you can find anything there. When we go in , we will usually find at least one thing.

To save money, I use the “buy ahead” strategy for groceries when they are at rock bottom prices to stock up. For instance, I don’t need any smart balance spread right now but I just bought 6 at kroger b/c I could get them for $0.99 each and they don’t expire for over a year. Create some wiggle room in your weekly grocery budget to allow for these stock up items and before you know it that’s all you’ll ever be shopping for!

When you see something in the store that’s got a “Save $1.00 Now” sticker on it. If you don’t need to buy it, grab the coupon and save it for later. Most of the times the expiration dates on these are more than a year out. The cashier will not know you stashed it six months ago when you go to use it at the register.
