I'm a dude as well but I haven't encountered many problems. Although you certainly want to avoid grumpy or harried cashiers, my goal is to establish myself from day one as someone who is congenial and exceptionally organized. I also make it a point to never use coupons that are borderline until I've used that cashier a few times. Then, like today, I point out borderline coupons in advance, saying "I think this will work. Let's try it." My goal is to have them look forward to checking me out and sharing money saving ideas with them.

I just wish my hubby would find couponing as "enjoyable" as you do... He's admitted that the only thing he enjoyed about couponing is all the free or close to free products we have while I'm the one doing the couponing. He HATES grocery shopping with me when I have to use coupons on everything I can find a coupon for.

Too funny! I also tend to get given more grief when I use coupons during the day. I usually scope out the coupon action in the line in front of me. If I get a hint of trouble I switch lines.

It tends to be the older cashiers that give me the worst trouble! I try to shop now in the evening hours because that's when a lot of the high school and college kids are working. The are usually the most coupon friendly.

I LOVE the non-couponing man logic for picking a cashier. I need to break it down for myself as simply as you have. I always think I pick the best, most coupon-friendly cashier but usually end up with the grouch. Great post!

I think the cashiers don't realize that the store is getting paid back for the manufacturers coupon. They should consider the coupon just the same as cash.

You are right and it is not just a male thing either. I prefer a well seasoned cashier with a good understanding that I am helping my household save money and the store make money. I would also like to add that young cashiers (female) become upset becasue we find another deal then their store discount.

I so agree...I definitely profile my cashiers. I really don't know why they feel like we're trying to steal. Couponing is not illegal. We just want to make the best deal there is. I know, I know, there are always those out there that do things illegally, but what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

That is so true about the young "dude" cashiers! I don't get to target to often, but last time I went a had a ton of coupons. Although all the coupons were legit, I was prepaired for the hassle I had the last time.

I pushed my cart into the young dudes lane, every darn coupon beeped and he smacked the register each time making them go through. You could tell he would rather be anywhere else then checking out groceries. He never smiled or even spoke to me, but I'd much rather have him then the woman I had last time!
