Stockpile Recipe: Hip Dip

hip dip

Today’ recipe is courtesy of Karen of SavingTheFamilyMoney.com

I have been making this recipe for years, not just for football. I got it from a friend who called it “Hip” dip because that’s exactly where it goes!
This is so yummy you may need to double the batch!

Hip Dip Crowd Pleaser

Ingredients:
1 Can Rotel
1 Package Cream Cheese (sometimes I use more to make it creamier)
1 package Sausage (browned and crumbled)
Chips to dip (We love Tostitos)

• Place cooked sausage and all other ingredients in small crockpot and heat throughly
• Serve warm with chips.

That looks delicious! I wonder if it would be good with ground beef too?

We actually use hot italian sausage and a hot breakfast sausage, and velvetta..we don’t care for the cream cheese.

Hmmm, this is very similar to the dip I make, but use fresh tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and chopped chilies. This looks like an easy version that I may have to try sometime! Thanks!

This is great. We make it for special occasions. I have used up to 3 packages of cream cheese. I love cream cheese and am not a big meat eater so the creamier the better for me.

Just a word of caution for those who do not like “hot” food, be careful with Rotel. I have used them and for my taste they are a bit too hot.

We’ve been making Rotel Dip for years & years..All of my life & Im 50. Sometimes we use cream cheese, sometimes Velveeta, sometimes with both. I prefer it made with spicy breakfast sausage but I’ve known folks to use hamburger meat instead.

You can prepare it in the microwave for a quick fix as we did a week ago at my BIL’s party. My niece decided she needed queso y chips after the party was already in swing.

Cube the cheese in small cubes and pour the rotel over it, including the juice. Microwave on High for 2 minutes, and stir well.. continue to cook & stir in 2 minute increments to keep the cheese from burning. Then pour it into your crockpot to keep it warm.

Oh and the chips? Gotta’ be scoops-nothing works quite as well as ‘scoops’.

I LOVE this stuff. But since i’m getting married in August i need to stay away from the “hip dip” until then… dieting is no fun!

Has anyone tried low fat cream cheese with this recipe? Is it worth it?

I’ve never tried this with cream cheese before, as we’ve always used Velveeta, but I’ll have to give this version a whirl!
