Are You Going To Make It?

Rite Aid Deals

Are you going to make gold status on the Rite Aid Wellness card before 12/31/11 to get your 20% discount off for all of 2012?

I am about $100 away and I was trying to figure out if it was worth my while to get to gold assuming I had to spend the $100 out of my pocket using no coupons. That would mean I would have to spend $500 at Rite Aid next year before I earned that $100 back. Now granted that $500 is before coupons, but I am not sure I can justify just spending that extra $100.

IMO the easiest way to make gold with little muss or fuss is to submit for mail in rebates with the money I will spend. That way, I may have to shell out $100 now, but I will get it all back later.

So, what are some ideas you have to get to gold (assuming you are not already there)? And, is gold worth it to you if you have not made it already?

If you are close to gold and not sure how you are going to get there then I would suggest calling customer service. I know of several people calling at the end of last year (was it really that long ago?!?!?!) to ask for “courtesy points” and they had no issues getting them. Just a thought if the deals and rebates are scarce.

While anything is possible if you are close enough, last year was about six months for the wellness+ card (wow how time does fly!), so they may have been more accommodating. With an entire year to earn this time, do you really think they will give courtesy points? It would be wonderful if they would though!

I have no clue with them anymore. They were much more consumer friendly a year ago and I didn’t factor in that we did have a whole year this time so who knows. I would still try if I was super close.

I love when 20% wellness makes items cheaper then sale price. It is a great every time it happens.

I’m already at gold but now I’m working on my friend’s card. The best way of getting to gold is using high value coupons. If you have any free product coupons for stuff that Rite Aid sells, that is a great way to get points without spending money. You could also get rebate items (both TMF and SCR FAR items). If you pay with real money (rather than UPs) it will add Wellness Plus points and you’ll get the money back with the rebate. I think that getting to gold is worth it. There have been many times when a deal works out better than advertised when you are “gold”.

No I dont think so. I was well on my way and then the deals at RA went away and so did I. Just started going back recently!!

I spend so much money (before coupons) at Rite Aid that every year I reach gold by the end of January. Seriously. I’ve also helped get my sister, her friend, and two neighbors to gold in addition to my own card. I’d offer to do the same for your readers but I doubt that anyone would want to part with their cards for even a minute at this time of year. :o ) Other than that, I agree with you, Ann. Go for the rebated items or things you KNOW you’ll be giving for Christmas gifts. Or if you have a slew of coupons for something you’ll use, buy it now and build a little bit bigger stockpile (being mindful of expiration dates).

I am having a hard time getting there! It makes me feel better to know YOU are not there yet either. I thought I was alone :(

I have read that if a coupon doesn’t scan or beeps and they have to manually enter it, then it doesn’t count toward your points, whereas whatever a MFC coupon deducts-you still get the points for (I think that’s how it works). Anyways, their registers are wacky- I had a Herbal Essences s/c coupon and bought s/c and it wouldn’t scan, and the girl told me NONE of the HE coupons were scanning for any of the correct items. That is annoying. I worked really hard this past week buying things I normally wouldn’t have to try to get my points up. I am still a little over $100 away. I am going to try, but like you, I don’t want to spend $100 OOP. It is nice having the 20% though…

if I don’t make it, I’ll try calling. Can’t hurt to ask I guess. I do buy things there b/c I get 20% off that I would just buy elsewhere otherwise.. So they’d lose some business ;)

I am about 60 points away right now. I’d say the first 600 were a breeze and then the deals went cold and I have been working extra hard planning trips to earn points since then.
My shops are pretty small, but the points are gradually building. I have bought every free or mm toothpaste deal they have had and our local shelter should have gleaming white teeth this winter! I thought they would have some super cold/flu medicine deals this Fall, but wasn’t impressed, so I just keep digging. If I get to 1000 and the deals continue to be poor, I probably won’t try for it again. Too much effort for little reward.
But, that really doesn’t answer your ?
Here’s one…………..but I am not serious……………get sick and get your prescription filled at RA!! 4 prescriptions would get you 100 points.

Patti, not in NY or NJ, we get nuthin’. Since I do fill scripts there, it really stinks for us.

Ouch Ann. That really does stink!

The drugstores compete fiercely here for your prescription $’s. I can’t tell you how many gift cards/free groceries/perks I have received for a very occasional prescription.

You have no idea how jealous I have been over the years! People can pay balances on their drugstore deals just by transferring scripts with a coupon and receiving a gift card! I would love that!!

Too much effort for too little reward. I hardly shop at RA anymore…we only have a couple in town and a gazillion couponers so I gave up…I have a great stockpile so it is cool

I feel bad for those of you that live in a state where prescriptions filled at RA do not count toward your wellness points. That truly sucks. I get my two prescriptions and my hubby’s one filled each month. My card currently has almost 1,700 points. Most of you do not have sales tax and I’m envious of that. Like others have said, products that earn rebates and coupons for free items are the only things that come to mind. Do gift cards purchased at RA count toward Wellness Points? That might be an option.

Nope, gift cards do not count either. Bummers.

Hmmm… good question. I worked really hard and got to gold a couple of months ago. Everyone here was really supportive with ways to go about it. They are all listed here. My son has a card, too, and I was thinking I might try to get him to silver, but he is about 100 points away, too.

Hmmm… if I had any friends who needed flu shots, that might be one way! I don’t think I’m going to push it, though.

I”m about 125 away and really want it. Occasionally the 20% helps and I like having it. The other day I needed kids motrin for my daughter and we were out. How did that happen?! Anyway, with a $2 peelie on the package and my 20%, I got the motrin for $3 versus $6. I’m not going to spend OOP to get it but I have two refills left on my motrin prescription I got over the summer for a bad knee. DH and I use those horse pills for everything, cramps, back, knee, you name it. So if I fill one today, then one the last week of December and DD has one that needs to go in, then I should be good. And I’m going to be one of those loonies there Turkey Day morn. I plan to go, shop, and be back in time to make the mashed pototoes!!
There you have it.

Last year two snuggies and a magic kit for my youngest put me over the top. That was when they were having a great sale and VV on the snuggies and a $5/25.
$5/25, sigh, those were the fun days; we thought they would never end.

Well, after reading more on this, I’ll make the 60 more points one way or the other. We use a ton of vitamins and RA has been really good for that and with a 20% discount, it may well be worth it.

I have noticed that when a coupon beeps and won’t take and they have to manually enter (override), that I don’t seem to be getting the wellness points on the manually entered coupons. Anyone else experiencing that?

I agree, I’m about 100 pts away and it helps to know that Ann isn’t there yet either. I felt so alone! I’ve been doing the rebates. The hard thing is that Rite Aid doesn’t carry enough of the rebate items to help me too much! I am planning on buying groceries to help get me thru the last 100 pts. and probably Christmas gifts. Wish we had the 5/25 like last year. That made things so wonderful!!!!
