Look in your Parade Magazine and USA Weekend today or tomorrow. There’s a little coupon sticking out the top (you can’t miss it) for a Free 12 oz Smootie or Frappé at McDonald’s. The coupon expires 8/15/10.
So far I have eight.

Free McDonald’s Real Fruit Smoothie promotion plans halted

diggthe company was planning to offer July 22 through 24, you’ll have to suffer without for a little while longer. The company announced late yesterday that it is delaying, or perhaps even canceling, the promotion to make sure it has adequate supplies to meet the anticipated demand.
“The McCafé Real Fruit Smoothies are an absolute hit with our customers and we’re experiencing unprecedented demand for this delicious new choice on our menu,” said Neil Golden, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s USA in a press release.
In the carefully worded release, the company said it is “reviewing the potential of rescheduling the national in-restaurant Smoothie sampling event for a later date.” Note that there is no promise here that it will reschedule — and why should it, if the drinks are already the hit that it claims they are? And after the fiasco that KFC suffered when it failed to honor a freebie offer that went viral, McDonald’s trepidation seems reasonable.
The company is continuing to honor other promotions including coupons, at “participating restaurants.” If you want more info, you can call McDonald’s at 1-800-244-6227.

I tried to explain this to someone else yesterday, but they called corporate to confirm (apparently I did not explain very well):
McDonalds had three promos slotted:
1) The coupon in usa weekend and parade that is still valid
2) The $1 printable coupon that is still valid
3) This freebie offer that was canceled.
If you read the story and the coupon you can see that they are not related in any way. One was a three day sample offer that you could walk in and get just for asking, the other is a 12oz size that you need a coupon to obtain, and it is valid until 8/15/10.

I got my coupon. Woohoo.
I got three (so far!), and used one today with no problem. In fact, the gal almost did not take my coupon! I handed it to her AS she was saying “Just pull forward to the second window.” She then saw the coupon in my outstretched hand and said “Oh yeah,” and took it.
