Today I received a question regarding multiple submissions on one CRT. I know this has been covered multiple times as a response in prior blog posts, but apparently I never wrote an independent article, so here goes:
The easiest way to be assured that you will have the correct CRT to send in for a mail in rebate it to keep a running list of the rebate requirements and the inclusion dates.
Believe it or not, even I do this! I find it quite easy to get together my pile of rebates, write up the dates and what products need to be purchased for an offer (as well is if it needs to be one CRT or may be multiples), and I keep this notebook in my purse. It makes it super easy to know what to purchase, what goes on what CRT, and if I need a filler, the list is there.
But what happens if you rang up several offers on one CRT? Check the offers to see if an original CRT is required. If an original is not required, just make a copy of the CRT and submit the copy.
If you have several offers on the same CRT that all require an original CRT, gather the items to return and re-buy.
If you are out of the inclusion dates when trying to return and re-buy, see if the store can look up your receipt and print a duplicate. You will be taking a chance, but you have little to lose at that point if you want to keep the product. Outside the inclusion dates, your only other alternative would be to completely return the product.
Many stores, especially liquor stores, will issue duplicate CRTs that will say “for rebate purchase”. The clearinghouses do accept these. If your grocery store issues duplicate receipts that say “Duplicate Receipt” and the offer requires an original, redemption could become dicey. I’ve submitted duplicates when originals were called for and been paid, but I would never suggest that you will always be paid when submitting a “duplicate receipt” for an offer that requires an original CRT. Ask prior to the beginning of the order if your store issues duplicate receipts as some software requires this to be input prior to the start of the order. Other software (like at Tops) just requires you ask before the start of the next order. Many stores will (can) only issue one duplicate, other stores can issue as many as you need (the most I ever received at Tops was nine duplicates).
Since ringing up rebate items separately (or in the necessary group) is the easiest way to assure yourself the proper CRT requirement will be fulfilled, I strongly advise doing that! Now you may ask how many orders you can split up at one time? The answer to that is easy: as many as you need! Do not let the grumbling and groaning of the cashier get to you. It is your money, you do what you need to do to get it. I have on occasion told the cashier that the orders are for rebates, and I get an “oh” and no troubles afterward.

Hmmm….I need to go buy some stamps, b/c I have a TON of rebates sitting here that need to be sent off.
Completely off topic here but on 4/30 the last day of the month i had gotten 6 of $1 off when you buy 2 20 oz cokes and i thought sweet coupon to use at target, thankfully they were not printed coupons because they beeped every time. so i was going through the line one at a time because, well that’s only fair. and i went into a different line for the 3rd time and she saw my bogo target coupon and commented that’s nice, and i said actually have a few extra would you like them? she said yes, and i handed them over, and then she said just grab everything and i will do them separately for you since the target q said one per transaction, sweet!!! she was really nice, and now i know how to bribe them so they won’t be so grumpy with me!! YAY
PS- we got my ring today from Kay jewelers that my lovely hubby has been paying for in lay-away for a year. we’ve been married for 3 years what a wonderful anniversary present! i’m not the gimme gimme gimme now type of person, i was willing to wait until our 5 years anniversary before getting a ring, but then financially we could afford it, and then life happens, and we were struggling for a while and i had suggested to return the ring and my hubby, he’s so sweet, said no because he wanted me to have it!!! i’m one lucky gal!
