In the Batavia NY store, there was a sign up the following day the coupon was released stating that it was FRAUDULENT. I think they are tossing such a BIG word around because they know that it is a perfectly legal coupon. Ridiculous. We have a sort-of-local Super Kmart, and I was going to use this coupon just to try out the store. I would have been doing a lot of shopping there. Oh well, I don’t think I will ever shop there after this!

Of course, with the right deal, I may be persuaded to go in to pick up a thing or two ;)

Hi Lori,

You think someone will be able to use it now?

Hehe Heather… I agree. No matter how angry I get at a store they can usually lull me in with the promise of “free”.

Well, except WalMart.

In the Update post Jay posted the link to the Consumerist article.

I do not think rank and file deal shoppers are going to let Kmart get away with this one. It ain’t fraud if they put it out themselves!

If you are a coupon person and you know that kmart put it out in a pdf format and it is not fraudulent, then you will stand your ground. I know I will :) Their screw up is not my problem.

It’s still up here Kmart.com

I suggest you keep this url as proof that KMART issued this coupon and print it out with the url included on the page. Take the whole page with you to show the origin of the coupon.

Hi Lori,

As I explained in the update post, it is a cookie issue. If you clear, the new, updated coupon with limitations appears. Although your coupon looks like an affiliate link and not the clean one from the other day. Hmmmmm

I got it off slickdeals.net. But I have 5 of the 10 off 20′s all with different barcodes that was sent out by kmart. I pdf’d them all. I’m going to try it and see what happens. I thought I removed the affiliate link, don’t need to give sd any promotions. :)

This whole fraudulent coupon stuff reminds me of the silk coupon that they put out without an exp date in pdf format and then has been calling it fraudulent for the last 3 years.

Hi Lori,

It is their affiliate. I checked aff=Y&sid=KAx20050801x13x when you click directly from their site, they add this to the end: Slickdeals

For those who will ask, I went to other sites to see what their Kmart affiliate id was to be certain this did not begin elsewhere. That id matches to SD. The only way SD can benefit from the above link is a purchase at Kmart online after someone clicks that link. I’m not sure what KMart’s cookie requirement is since I am not a KMart affiliate. It could be same session, 24 hours, or up to seven days.

Odd how that remained with the original, even after clearing cookies.

I get so tired of companies calling these things “fraud”. I complained to Bud about it a while back (CIC for those wondering who Bud is), and he did change the wording (or convince the manufacturers to change the wording) of those he “represents”.

I’d honestly have no problem with KMart coming out with this:

“On 3/18/10 we inadvertently released a $10/$20 Kmart coupon without location restrictive wording. This coupon was originally intended for those in the NYC, Chicago and Baltimore area. The wording has now been corrected. As of 3/19/10 we will no longer be accepting the $10/$20 KMart coupon without location restrictions.

We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Or something along those lines. Companies post retractions all the time! Is Kmart marketing so dumb that they do know this? (Don’t answer that! :-P )

According to a statement by a big cheese, I mean mod, at a certain deal site, a link to the national coupon was allowed, given that site was receiving financial benefits from Kmart. It did cross my mind that since Kmart royally screwed up; where was what his name on the issue. Lastly, my understanding that for most states when a B&M merchant makes an error, notice of a ‘correction’ must be put up at the place of business and often in the local newspaper. IMHO, on-line merchants should be mandated to follow a similar format, e.g. emails and front page of the web site, and honor all purchases done before the retraction.

I agree, Kas! We’d no longer see these claims of “fraud” when the website retailer does something they rather wish they had not.

One good reason to go elsewhere to do the cereal promotion is that Kmart ain’t cheap on the milk around here. Plus, if one is striving to reach $50 to use a $5 off $50 Kmart coupon, fresh milk doesn’t count.

I called (800-549-4505 option #5) and secured one of those $10 off $50 coupon. I was told it should take 4 or 5 days. Also a customer service person told me that the 5 MQ limit for doubles is per store. Yes, I’m not holding my breathe.
