How’s It Going?

by admin on December 1, 2011

‘Tis the season to be merry and bright or harried and trite as the case may be.

So I’m looking for an update – how far along are you all in your holiday preparations?

I have:

Not purchased one gift
Not made pierogi
And since I have not made a gift purchase, I clearly have not wrapped anything.

And to top it off, the new floor in our foyer that was supposed to be finished last week is still awaiting materials. That means we also have a ripped-up half bath!

Which also means I have no where to put a tree! Looking around online all slimline trees (with over 20 people for a sitdown I was thinking a slimline could fit in the family room) will be up to two weeks delivery.

I am not yet in panic mode, but by next week I very well may be.

Soooooooooo how’s your holiday season shaping up? Are you ahead of the game, on track or like me, so far behind you can’t see the end result?

I’ve purchased a few gifts, but many more to buy. I have not wrapped anything. I have not drug out my tree or decorations (that’s on the to-do list for Saturday). I have not made a Christmas card list….so I definitely haven’t sent them out. However, I have purchased them, so that’s a step in the right direction. =)

Well, I finished my shopping on Black Friday. Monday we had a sudden power outage and I wrapped my presents without power. :) I am excited that I got all of my shopping done before the last minute. You think Black Friday was a mess wait until Christmas Eve. P.S. I hope you get your floors finished and everything falls into place. I think I would be in panic mode.

We are about 1/2 through everything. Both trees up, one is decorated, icicle lights up and working and the wreaths go up this weekend.
About half of my gifts are bought, two wrapped. I’m cheap and still looking for the best bargins.
Since we are going to MIL’s house, yay; that is one less chore to tackle. But, I am hosting my lunch bunch here next Friday so I will need my house in order by next Friday and will need to make the meat and punch.
The girls and I still need to make cookies and candy but we at least have the ingredients and a plan. And I have all the ingredients bought for my nutrolls. I usually put aside one entire day for my nutrolls which I usually make just several days before Christmas.
I’m feeling good this year about everything. Some years I go down to the wire, really.
I feel for you, Ann. Home improvements around the holidays is so stressful. We are planning to remove a wall between our family room and breakfast room and DH wanted to start it in December. My reaction scared him silly. Imagine!

LOL on the December wall start…

We started in October, and it was supposed to be done. Unfortunately, the marble that was supposed to come in in a week in now on week five. At least it is now on American soil.

And the bathroom cabinet? Supposed to arrive in three weeks – it arrived five days later when we were in Chicago. *head bang* Thank goodness the tile guy was prepping the floor and accepted delivery.

Oh Lord, Ann you seem to be having one of my usual problems. I have to admit this year is going pretty good. I have the tree up and most of the presents bought. I’m looking for a few gift card deals now. PLEASE let me know if anyone knows of any. Some stores I’d like are: Kohl’s, Macy’s, Barnes & Noble, Tractor Supply, plus many more. The MAIN thing I need to purchase is a Carhartt duck down jacket in tan. If anyone comes across a deal on this, PLEASE let me know :)

Food Lion is offering $10 OYNO when you buy a $50 gift card there. I read that some places are offering rebates on gift cards but I can’t seem to find those. They would be great as well.

If anyone is searching for certain deals as I am, please post and maybe we can help each other out.

I can imagine that the reaction to a wall removal in December might scare a poor hubby silly.

Me, I am doing okay, but I am always behind. If I buy presents early, I give them and since most of my husband’s family lives elsewhere, we never know what to get them until we receive greed lists as they call it. Which most have now sent, so the buying has begun. We are a tad ahead on his family. My family, my mom doesn’t like anything I get her, but she likes Walmart gift cards as if she is broke it can be for food, clothing they need, or something splurgy if they feel they can do so. Otherwise whatever I gave her felt like a waste to her, as it wasn’t what they needed, especially when they were living on beans or whatever, as the money had run out. My family isn’t too bad then, but do need to get moving, as I like to give a few locally and need to have my tree up and decorated and some cookies and chex mix made before a small gathering at my house on the 15th.

I am behind, but I always am at this time of the year.

Not bought a gift-whoops make that one-the Toy Story Operations that I forgot to give last year. I always do better buying last minute-don’t spend as much. No decorations yet-hubby not able to lift anything for a while-so don’t want him trying to help. Been around the block-try to just savor the moments.

I have some of the gifts bought but none wrapped. I have about 6 Christmas cards done but a bazillion more to go. I was going to go the photo card route online with stamps and all the bells and whistles but there is just something about a hand written card that I like. My goal is to get busy this weekend!

Ann- my sister makes me pierogi every year for Christmas and it is my favorite gift. Perfect present for me.

Almost done without starting. We can’t afford gifts or the extra on our electric bill for Christmas lights. There’s no place for a tree. I may find time for Christmas cards. Don’t feel sorry for me, I’m just happy and thankful that my husband is still with us and getting better. But I did make a wreath from branches from the overgrown evergreen outback. And it smells great! Merry Christmas everyone, and a Happy New Year too!

Some of my best Christmas memories are when we would get a tumble weed out of the back yard and spray paint it green or red then decorate it. We would wrap up things from around the house just so that we could have something to unwrap. We would laugh and laugh at what each other picked out.

In our household we are running behind. Thanksgiving is this Saturday.

We will decorate after turkey.
NO Christmas gift shopping for me (Thank God). We decided to adopt two in-need families instead of exchanging gifts that we don’t need anyways. Purchasing gift cards is so easy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to ALL.

No gifts bought. Live in Michigan…as one can imagine, I don’t have funds for gifts unless manna falls from heaven. My husband is getting better after a heart attack & stents in August, & my aged by young at heart had open heart surgery on the same day as my husband in a different city, 2 1/2 hours from us. Daughter was just diagnosed with a medical issue too in August, & I’m my sisters’ guardian the last two years, & in the process of relocation to a better nursing facility. :) GOD has answered all my prayers, my family members on doing very well, & I am now living in a previous house we had one year ago…I AM so content. I plan on giving out candy from Wags deals :) Yeah couponing & we have all our basic needs met !

We bought a fake tree this year-should have done it sooner. Is very quick to put up (being pre-lit) and looks perfect w/ little effort on my part.

Done with ALL the shopping but ZERO wrapped and zero cards written. Need to get motivated on that part….it’s almost as if ..since I’m early I can take a mid season break?

Every year I say next year I’ll get stuff done sooner…..only to be more behind the next year? LOL This year is probably the most behind I’ve ever been and I hate it! No shopping done, no goodies baked, no cards mailed, no decorations hung…Sigh Maybe next year LOL
