Wake Up And Smell The Coffee

coffee

Bright and early every Monday morning we’ll be discussing coffee! Mmmmm Some weeks it will be restaurant coffee, other weeks it will be packaged coffee we can prepare at home!

This week, we are discussing Tim Hortons restaurant coffee.

As those of you that have been reading Coupons, Deals and More for a while know that I loooooove me some Timmie’s! A bit of back story about the chain:

Tim Horton was a hockey player. He started a shop in Hamilton, Ontario in the early 60s with a partner. He died in a car accident on the way back to Buffalo from a Maple Leafs – Sabres game in the early 70s. His wife sold to the man who was his partner at the time of his death. Eventually, Wendy’s acquired Tim Hortons and span it off to an IPO in 2006.

Tim Hortons is Canada’s largest fast food chain surpassing McDonald’s 10 years ago. There are Tim Hortons all over Canada, the northern US – but as far south as Kentucky and Virgina. There are Tim Hortons in Dubai, the UK and Afghanistan (military base).

As far as the coffee goes …

I will confess I dislike a strong brew. I like coffee that is a smooth, not rough, not bitter. Timmie’s fills that bill! My brother swears it is the cream and not the coffee, and there may be some merit to that claim. Tim Hortons uses a triple heavy cream making the coffee smoooooooooth!

The current coffee cups I have been getting claim the coffee is roasted in Rochester, NY. As far as what type of coffee it is, Tim Hortons use a blend. The Tim Hortons coffee partnership offers some insight as to where the blends are imported from: Guatemala, Colombia and Brazil.

As with all coffee how you consume it changes the taste – black tastes different than coffee with cream and sugar added. I can’t drink sweetened coffee, I dislike it. I prefer coffee with two creams, but will drink it black occasionally.

To me, Tim Hortons tastes best with cream, but is still very smooth black.

Have you ever has Tim Hortons coffee? Do you like it? Dislike it? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I LOVE MY TIMMY HOS!. When I lived out of town it was the first place I would stop before my parents. I`m craving some right now! The milk has to be a butter cream or something!

My best friend from grad school is canadian and by default he loves tim hortons. He’s very pro canada anyways. Lol. He introduced me to the chain and I’d agree that it is very smooth coffee. I normally have cream in my coffee and with Tim Hortons, I found myself needing less cream. They also have a frappe like drink that was VERY good. If there was a Tim Hortons close by, I’d frequent it more so than Dunkin Donuts.

I love Timmy Ho’s too. I love it with double cream too. Today, I added some pumpkin spice flavoring but had to add a splenda to add some sweetness, but I usually don’t like my coffee sweet either.

I have tasted it and it was delicious! My daughter brought some back with her from a trip to Canada and stretched that big can to around a year. She only shared one cup with me but it had an amazing flavor. I add 2 creamer’s and one Splenda to each cup – no matter who makes it. 3-4 cups per day.

As you know Ann, there is 1 right up the road from me. :) I think your brother is right, the cream makes it. I get a medium w/ 3 cream and every now and then a shot of Hazelnut. My son goes about every day and now one opened last year in his college. They are popping up all over!

I agree, it has to be the cream. I just recently moved out of Buffalo to Nashville, TN. Oh how I wish there was a Timmy’s down here! Dunkin and Starbucks just don’t measure up. A couple of my friends are coming down to visit me in a couple weeks and are bringing me Timmy’s in a thermos! I can’t wait!!! I love me some Timmy Ho’s!
